John Wood memorial pick

The plan is for the first annual John Wood pick to take place sometime after Leftover Salmon set on Saturday night. For those of you that didn’t know John, he was our campmate, good friend and brother who last year while attending the Telluride Bluegrass festival suffered a major medical condition that required him to be airlifted to Grand Junction where he passed away the following day. The song he was playing on his banjo at the time was “Morning Sun” by Leftover Salmon so most likely the pick will last until we see the morning sun. Then after the land rush and before the gospel set we will have a small ceremony with the rest of John’s ashes. Also on the Tuesday night after the festival in Lyons the second annual pick in John’s honor will take place at Oscar Blues. Last year the pick was the most emotional night of music that I have witnessed, I still get wet eyes thinking about Bonnie Simms playing “Speed of the Sound of Loneliness”. So come join us and remember our friend John.

What a great way to remember a fallen friend, I will try to make it :cheers

I think of John often when I’m playing my favorite Grateful Dead tune in Bluegrass style. We Love and Miss you John!

The John Wood Memorial Pick will take place Saturday night in town park after Leftover Salmon until we see the Morning Sun. Sunday morning we will have a memorial with his ashes at 9 AM by the waterfalls.

Very cool Al! Wish Annette and I could be there, it will be epic.

Nice to hear vince pay his respects to John on the main stage last night!

Thanks Travis and the rest of the pickers who showed up Saturday night at the Cascadia dome. And to Vince Herman and Andy Thorn for joining in the morning sun jam and mentioning John Wood on the main stage. John’s friends are hoping that the picking jam will continue as a tradition that will remember all those we have lost in the past years, not just John. An annual rememberance jam.

It was a lovely pick at Cascadia, very nicely done.
