I would not put Ryan Adams in the same sentence with Jim James. James is a pretty good artist. he may not play bluegrass per se but MMJ is a good band. he has collaborated with people like Elvis Costello and Rhiannon Giddens. He has played quite a few shows for charity.
He will not show up too drunk to play. He has no record of sexually harassing other musicians. IMHO, Ryan Adams should never be invited back to this festival again. Sorry to be so harsh, but that is how I feel.
Haters gonna hate
In pure musical terms, I like the “best of worlds” from Ryan Adams far better than Jim James. It’s not even close for my taste.
But I agree about him being a loose canon and being all over the map.
Having said that, I couldn’t agree more that he’s got some serious issues that I’d have a very difficult time getting past in a similar, but not quite the same light as “did-somebody-say-fatwah Cat Stevens” (who was rumored to appear at TBF a few years ago, but was then “suddenly” off the radar). But yeah, barring a genuine mea culpa and more, I have no desire to see him again.
