Is it too early for 2018 band suggestions?

Word on the street is Prairie Home Companion will be doing a live show from TBF 2018. Getting this from friend who is a reliable source in entertainment media. :thumbsup

Anyone else hearing things of this sort???

Hoping that the “American Acoustic” adds a tour stop @ the APHC season opener at The Palace in St Paul 10/7/17.

If A TBF/APHC taping happens, they should certainly have GK as a guest? :thumbsup

We need to get the boys at Run-A-Muck to work on this. It would make a perfect Saturday midnight show!

I second Alabama Shakes for a main-stage closer. In my humble opinion, things are gotten a little slow for those slots, which has made NightGrass decisions a lot easier. I miss the funk and dance music of a Sharon Jones or David Byrne after hours of acoustic string music. For that matter, the McCrary Sisters could fill a late night slot even more appropriately than the Sunday Morning Gospel Hour that they did a couple years ago.

In the same vein, I was really hoping for St. Paul & the Broken Bones last year, but it didn’t happen. His calendar was open during Telluride for quite a while, and then that door sadly closed. Another thought: The Mavericks put on one heck of a live show that crosses musical genres and tastes (how about a double of FirstGrass and a Thursday close for The Mavericks?).

Is the sun setting on Neil Young at TBF? Every year, I’ve got my fingers crossed.

I have enjoyed the slight detours toward country music the last few years - like Margo Price last year. Two young and up-and-comers that would fit Telluride nicely are Tyler Childers and Jeremy Pinnell, both of whom have just released wonderful albums in the last couple of weeks.

Oh … and Billy Strings. What’s taken so long?

Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real but only if he brings along the Lucius women who sing on his new album. They were great with Roger Waters. Also the two main headliners from this weekends Jackpine Jamboree… Leftover Salmon and Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. My favorite Wisconsin festival.

The unforgettable and timeless Robert Plant. :cheers

What a rush that was to see him live with space to move and dance, under the stars and the snow falling. Like a dream. Goosebump city!! :medal

I could do that over and over and over again. THE ONLY time in my entire life I heard myself squeal like that. :lol
:flower Dang that was sooo very good!

He has a new tour and Album as well and gee I want seconds… :lovedr

I’ve now seen Billy Strings at two festivals this summer (Grey Fox and Thomas Point) and am totally convinced he would blow the top of our favorite box canyon. He has a CD coming out later this month and I think it’s going to generate a lot of excitement. So hope he comes to Telluride in 2018!

Have only seen him via YouTube but agree - looks the real deal. Fingers crossed

He’s unbelievable live. So much fun and crazy high energy.

  1. Dawes. Taylor Goldsmith is an amazing song writer, and while they are definitely not bluegrass, their mix of Americana and folk would be amazing at TBF.
  2. Sturgill Simpson. This guy is MADE for festivals like this.
  3. Billy Strings
  4. Jonny Fritz
    5. Alabama Shakes
  5. Robert Ellis
  6. Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

How about some Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper?

+1 for Billy Strings

20 years for some dust in a baggie

Would always root for Gillian and Dave.

:wave I got one for ya.
A.J. Croce. Jim’s son sounds great and paired with Vice Gill sounds excellent. :medal

Stumbled on this sweet Lil Smokies video on JamTV. Great to see a young band get better and better! Hoping they’ll be back in 2018…

Lots of good suggestions here!!! Really hoping for Smokies!!!

I’m really liking the new band featuring Brittany Haas, Paul Kowert, Jordan Tice and Dominick Leslie. Hawktail is their name and they’ve already scored some sweet festy dates for next year.

I think they would please the T-ride crowd with their superior instrumental chops.

Beck and Wilco would still be my top choices of non bluegrass/country acts, though both delve into the folky country aspect at times.
I’m always happy with the regular acts of Hot Rize, Punch Bros, Greensky, Sam Bush, and man was Tim O’Briens set fantastic last year.
Of course I’d be way into an old school Leftover set (especially if they reunited with the Apt.)

:wave I’ve said it many times Jeffrey Lewis and Los Bolts should be given a good listening by all festivarians, and given consideration by PB.
Some links to Jeffrey Lewis music:

Some local Okie acts that are gaining big attention I’d add would be John Fulbright, Paul Benjamin Band, John Moreland, Randy Crouch, Joe Mack, Chris Lee Becker, and Combsy.

and I’d highly suggest getting any of Danny Barnes projects.

Thats all for now. Hope everyones having a good November, maybe we’ll see some of you in Steamboat this Feb.

(I had to edit your post as the links ran together and were unusable until fixed. :thumbsup Telluride Tom)

Colter Wall

Incredible.

John Hiatt is on tour with The Goners. A 30th anniversary tour featuring Sonny Landreth on slide. That was my favorite Hiatt era and it would just ROCK TBF.

:wave
Tommy Emmanuel and the Dawg!
