Is it too early for 2018 band suggestions?

I don’t believe I’ve seen Jeff with Danny Barnes, but have seen the JAB about four times since the Yonder split and while one of those shows was very subdued and ethereal/jazzy, the other three were totally “on” in terms of everything coming together. Have probably seen Yonder about 6 times since the split and while none of their shows were “duds” (by any stretch), only one or two may have been “on” (for my tastes) and have found the band to be lacking the “whole is greater than the sum of its parts” component that it clearly had originally. Sometimes the parts don’t get along in real life, and sometimes one of the parts can be a bit of a PITA … but can you imagine an Eagle’s version of Hotel California or Witchy Woman without Don Henley on vocals?

I’m also not suggesting that Nigel needs to hold his guitar over his head as he walks on stage to reunite with his old band mates, but can’t help but wonder about the perpetual absence of a long time TBF creative force as an independent act in light of the “broken family” being able to get along elsewhere?

Can’t argue with most of the names mentioned so far, especially Tedeschi Trucks Band and the Black Lillies. Railroad Earth is always welcome in my book along with Leftover Salmon anytime! I’m in the bring back Jeff Austin camp as well, can’t we all just get along, I always thought Telluride was about inclusiveness and welcoming to all, even if it might be “inconvenient” for a small few.

Rapidgrass is a fun band that would be great to see in Telluride. If we’re talking about a non-bluegrass band which we seem to get more and more of lately I think Of Monsters and Men would be fun. And I really liked the Dierks set this year with the Travelin’ McCoury’s, why not a little more country in our lives like Little Big Town!

Maybe Sugar can work some magic and get Jeff Austin to play Run a Muck next year? :evil :cheers

Tuesday night I heard Mark O’Connor and the O’Connor Band at the Boulder Theater, and they were amazing, just excellent musicians playing brilliantly together. O’Connor asked specifically for someone to put in a good word for them with Telluride. :thumbsup I first heard them at Rocky Grass last summer, so it’s not like Planet Bluegrass doesn’t know about them. I guarantee if they appear at TBGF they’ll kill it.

Amen to Black Lillies

Jason Isbell/Amanda Shires w/ or w/o 400 Unit depending on time slot
Steve Earle w/ the McCourys
Holly Williams
Turnpike Troubadours
Ashley Monroe
Brandi Clarke
John Moreland
Pistol Annies
Brent Cobb
Drew Holcomb
Neko Case
The Sadies
Taj Mahal and Keb Mo

That may be enough!

Looking back at prior lineups, I’m so, so envious of all who can get to TBF every year - what great music!!!

Jim Wynn

That’s a good list there.

since they just announced getting back together for a bit. How about one last shot at Dolly and Kenny Rogers passing through.

Just settling in after a fantastic Grey Fox festival. Billy Strings totally floored the festival and would be a great fit for Telluride. Cabinet (who I’d never heard of before) was also really good.

good call on dwight…at least i thought it was a good idea until i saw him recently…
loved his new cd(2016) and especially the SUPER killer vesion of purple rain on it
he did zero songs off the new cd at the show i saw…wtf !
and that cd has a nice bluegrass feel to it. ugh
i left the show disappointed as a result.

i would love to see paul kelly play telluride
and xavier rudd of course

Daniel Norgren belongs in Telluride…
Daniel Norgren Live at AB - Ancienne Belgique

There’s a wonderful article in the 08/14/17 New York Times about Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer. These two remarkable artists (and siblings) are releasing their first album made together, “Not Dark Yet,” later this week. While the article doesn’t discuss their plans to tour together, they’d be a fine, fine addition to TBF 2018.

Wish list updated

I would really love to see the Alabama Shakes live, what a talent she is

I may have mentioned Alison Kraus and Union Station

And for a party I think Jimmy Buffet is great, great fun. May not be Telluride style but I can really picture 5,000 people singing Brown Eyed Girl together in the park

Dreaming of sunshine and friends from across the oceans…

Some smaller acts who’d be great are:
Truckstop Honeymoon
Jeffrey Lewis
Split Lip Rayfield
Grazzhopper
Arkansauce
A variety of side projects from Elephant Revival people, such as:
We Dream Dawn (Sage’s new project)
My Tea Kind (Bonnie’s old band with her sisters and James Townsend)
Cottonwood Snow (floating line-up of all women band usually led by Bonnie, Bridget, Bonnie’s sisters and a variety of others have shared the stage.)
Bonnie and Dan have multiple projects together outside of revival.

Can we add
The Wood Brothers
Yarn
Arkansauce
Dirtfoot
Moutain Sprout

Just a few of my favs.

Useful Jenkins are amazing! take a listen if you haven’t heard of them yet! They would be an awesome addition to Telluride! :thumbsup :cheers

They had John Fogerty, so is Jimmy Buffet really out of the question?
I think he’d be a great addition.

He only works Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays! So he could fit in on two days of the fest! Everybody could wear the outfits from Tropical Tuesday for the Buffett set! :pirate

Thursday night Buffet, Island drunk fest! Watch for sharks.
