Is 28 faster than 70 from east?

Looks like 28 is a more direct route from 70 entering Co from east. Is it good road (not too slow) to take??? If anyone has any input on this, fill me in…
Thanks Mucho!

dont’ know the answer here but would guess you would want to stick on I-70 rather than take the other, more direct route, unless you’re a gambling man of course, then i would advise trying it out…

You bringing some Appalachian stompgrass with you?

Direct routes in Colorado are straight along the eastern plains, but in western Colorado, its different. A two lane road that you don’t know is best driven slow. I70 is crass and commercial, but it will move you through the mountains, faster and safer. If you take U.S. 50 from Grand Junction to Montrose, it is mostly a four lane road. Montrose to Ridgeway has a long straight stretch with lots of traffic and it is dangerous to pass other cars along there. From Ridgeway to Telluride, you will go as fast as the slowest vehicle in the line, more than likely. Enjoy the views.

I’m taking I 70 because I’m driving through the night and I want to avoid deer and I figure it’s safer and easier on a four lane high way than on 550. However, there are some beautiful mountain roads in Colorado if you’re driving during the day!
