I thought this might be of interest to some. It was posted by M&S on their facebook page:
We’ve heard from many of you recently with issues regarding ticketing for Mumford & Sons shows.
As musicians and gig goers ourselves, we hate seeing tickets for our shows up on sites within minutes of going on sale at double and triple face value just as much as you do. We don’t control these sites. We can’t guarantee the tickets are real. And we don’t benefit financially.
The fact remains that ticket reselling in one form or another is legal in the vast majority of situations, which distorts the market and encourages speculation. In the absence of government legislation, the best we can promise you is to do everything we can to make the ticket-buying experience as fair and affordable as possible, and to work with promoters and ticket-selling companies to keep tickets out of the secondary markets.
To that end, we are working on new ways to ensure that as many tickets as possible end up in the right hands. Some will undoubtedly work better than others, so we ask that you bear with us if it takes an extra few minutes to get into a venue, or if the purchasing page requires an extra step. We believe ultimately we can create a fairer experience that will benefit everyone. Everyone but the touts and scalpers, that is.
In the meantime, thanks as ever for being amazing and in the immortal words of Bryan Adams: ‘Everything we do, we do it for you.’
I, on the other hand, would be thrilled to see M&S in the lineup. Sunday night in the freezing rain two years ago is one of my absolute favorite memories.
I definitely respect M&S’ songwriting skills, novelty, and energy. They just seem like one of those bands you only need to see once, just my opinion. Their set in the rain/snow 2 years ago was quite unforgettable, then Robert Plant and Band of Joy came on and KILLED IT!
All of the tickets/passes for TBF will likely be sold out before they even announce who’s playing. So the “craze” that you speak of shouldn’t change anything about who attends the festival. With that said, I would love to see Mumford on Sunday.
It’ll make tickets much more difficult to find for those who don’t get them on time, need more than they initially thought, etc… The secondary market will be a mess, and any scalpers who decide to participate this year will be rewarded handsomely. If there’s a NG show, it could make the NG lotteries more difficult, possibly for other shows besides that one (because if you’re traveling to TRide, you might as well see another show while you’re there).
At any rate, I think it’s moot, because I’m sure Planet Bluegrass wants more bang for their buck. I’d rather see several really awesome, but less popular, bands than one pretty good band that blows the whole budget.
The lineup didn’t have any big name bands last year. Any chance they saved some money from last year and applied it to this year’s budget? Probably isn’t the case, but it was a thought that I had.
Fogerty is legendary, but when he isn’t playing Telluride he’s traveling the country stopping in whichever casino will have him. Just because you’ve been around a long time doesn’t mean you demand a high price tag. You guys act like Neil Young played last year or something. Sorry to offend, but the glory days have passed for Fogerty. Either way, like I originally said, he was a blast live because he’s a great entertainer. With that said, it was just a thought, and I’ll stick to it.
One thing I learned from last year’s festival is that people get TOUCHYYYYY when you crack a joke about Fogerty or Hornsby. I apologize for the offense, but it’s all in good fun people!
Regardless of whether they “saved” money last year by having fewer high-profile acts, the point still stands that for the price of one Mumford & Sons, you can have several very good bands (even better than Mumford & Sons) that have a much lower price tag. People generally don’t go to Telluride to see the flavor of the week.
Really good one, FuppinHacky! :lol a good chuckle fersure! :cheers
As long as a T’rideHouseBand member plays in some form each and every day of Festivaaaaaal! I believe we’ll all be happy…eh?
What we really need this year, imho, is http://www.patflynnmusic.com/ with whomever he’d like to bring along…
