Buying music, learning lyrics, and booking the dog sitter. Are you kids ready to party :evil
What are you getting happy about!
Yes I’m excited too. Six weeks, is that right? It’s coming up fast. Stoked about Dave Rawlings Machine and getting to see Gillian Welch…
:lol Yes soooo excited! I will see Sam Bush, 2 nights of String Cheese, Del McCoury, Dr Ralph Stanley, Kellar Williams W/Travellin McCoury’s and sooo much more The weekend B 4 in SoCal and then head to T Ride all with My Wife, and 7 & 9 year old boys! They cant wait to camp and dance the week away!!!
Shhzzeepers, Pete! That is not too shabby of a prelude or warmer-upper!! Have a great time there!
And ponchom, DRM with Gillian was definitely the highlight of those later announcements for me too…really looking forward to that!
Even with all of the amazing music there I have to admit I was crushed when Alison Krauss’ tour was announced through Saturday night of Telluride…I couldn’t believe that my 1st time back since 1996 & I wasn’t going to be seeing JD. So KaraJean, I am over-the-top excited about seeing The Earls…& the House Band!!!
And then there are one or 2 other “ok” bands there too…to the extent that I am concerned about the logistics of obtaining sustenance. Who is interested in a “I’ll buy, you fly” deal???
I see the schedule is up and looks like cheese is playing 2:30 hour sets each night … only $35/ticket for single days. Camping sold out, but very inexpensive decent hotels within walking distnace. Except for the heat in the valley, it’s now all very tempting!!!
(this is to say nothing of a serious In-N-Out binge)
I cant believe we still have a little more than a month to go . I am packed and ready to hit the road . That festival in Ontario looks cool . Close to me but I leave for Telluride that weekend . Who ever heard of sleep before “FESTIVAL”!! :cheers
Extremely…excited and…
Concerned about the long drive from Denver Airport…and the check-in procedure for Town Park…
!5 years in a row to GreyFox/Winterhawk…This will be an epic change!!
dont be worried about that amigo. beautiful drive. :cheers
A lawnchair with my name on it. :lol Sun on my shoulders and the sound of the river. Beer, really, really cold, headach cold. Just a few at 2:00 :medal
Strings and wood. Dancing with someone I dont know. Smiling so big and for so long bugs are stuck on my teeth :lol
Music, Music and more Music. Yep I’m ready. Close to reckless with wild abandon :lovedr :cheers June…yep Im excited. :flower
Stuff I’m excited for:
-My first TBF!!! Stepping foot in that big ol’ box canyon for the first time ever.
-Late night Leftover Salmon in the Sheridan Opera House, a venue I’ve wanted to go to for ages.
-Taking the gondola ride up to the conference center for Yonders’ big kickoff party.
-Watching magic unfold between Bela and the accompanying Orchestra as the sun sets.
-Seeing new artists for the first time, Dave Rawlings Machine being at the top of that list.
-Watching Greensky crush the Palm theater on Friday night.
-Pretty much every single act that plays the main stage on Saturday and Sunday. Especially Sam Bush.
-Celebrating the legend that is Del McCoury on Saturday night.
-Festivating the entire weekend with all you fine folks.
I could pretty much go on and on…
We’re skipping T-Ride this year for Huck Finn, and couldn’t be more excited! Never seen Dr. Ralph before, add in Sammy, SCI, Keller, Mccourys, Rhonda etc. and you have yourself a nice little festy. :thumbsup
I woke up and yep more excited then yesterday…I want to paint my tarp so it is easy to see and it would be fun. Waterproof huge ying yang or shark :medal
Eww Puff Paint for texture and grip when you dance in the rain :lol :lol
My chair, thinking about getting a new one this year, could be me but seems a tad lower then last year :lol
Starting to get prepaired, rain gear. Blew mine out so need that too.
YES lets do this thing! :burn
I have a couple questions regarding the whole tarp run. 1 is that does this happen every morning? I would like to participate but don’t know if I will be able to get up early Thursday after Yonder kickoff.
Also I see on the videos online that some people have pretty massive tarps. Is that generally how its done, and are people particular about their tarp space during the fest?
Yes, there is a tarp run every morning and most
people are very nice, at least in my experience, about
sharing tarps if it’s being unused.
Now, I believe size is a bone of contention
with many and the way the lineup for tarps is
handled has been debated rather thoroughly on the
forum. As far as I know, nothing has changed but there
are others who can explain those rules more
extensively for you.
I’m usually sleeping.

Welcome to the machine, moeron221!
Large groups tend to fare out best over the long haul, since they can disperse tarp line duties among several people over the course of the festival as well as invest in drones - which allows for remote spotters & tactical ops during the actual tarp run.
While it is highly competitive, it’s still easy to enjoy oneself at the festival without playing the game (or just doing so to a lesser degree).
Haha LOL fantastic explination face on mars!!!

The Tarp Run is great fun! But it’s also fun to simply watch from the sidelines. The worth really depends on how many people are coming with you. I came for three years with a group of 3, and we never participated. We were always able to find a spot to park our chairs for a set or three. People are incredibly willing to share their space, especially if you buy them a beer or load them a bowl or just have great conversation. I didn’t start participating in the run until I joined a group of 20 or so that wanted to hang together every day.
i camped for the tarp run and found that experience to be not worth the upgrade in real estate, i mean, you are sitting in a line instead of playing in the night campfire jams, seeing nightgrass etc. i still got pretty good real estate getting in line at 8:30 each morning. in the long run, for the bands you are particularly excited for during the day, you CAN move up and sit in empty spots up closer as T-ride has the policy that if there are empty seats, anyone can sit in them til the owner gets back. i saw the steeldrivers front row one year after having gotten in line at 8:30am. then went back to my spot to relax and listen to a band i didnt feel as passionate about.
:cheers The tarp run can be fun depending on your energy level. We use to get in line about 2 A.M. but as the years go by we adjust, Hot Sugar ran for us a time or two because I always wanted up front. However the sound is outstanding farther back so maybe the tarp run is an add on we don’t need anymore.
However Hot Sugar :lol if your feelin frisky let me know I have a special tarp spot I love :lol! I think after a few more years we should do a tarp crawl :lol :medal
Advantage is a skill and game but can be overrated. Depends… on you and your needs.
Am I excited? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! :medal
