Hello! Looking for housing for Telluride Bluegrass Festival Wed, Thurs, Fri night! Would really like to stay on the main street and be able to walk/ride bikes to the festival. Unable to camp at this time, just a friend and I…put a few feelers out on vrbo and craigslist but haven’t heard anything…THOUGHTS? Would love to find some affordable cute condo place in town…ANY IDEAS?
I hate being a bubble burster, but from my experience “affordable” and “condo” don’t usually appear in the same sentence regarding festival. I’d keep an eye on those resources you posted. The problem is that everyone knows it’s festival, and the rates are waaay higher for that weekend at almost any spot in town; it’s where they make their money, I’d imagine, and as a result we have the play the game
This year we had a more difficult time than normal getting a condo, and we started looking earlier than ever (maybe a mistake?) considering the increased draw of TBF + the 40th anniversary.
We booked last fall, too, in anticipation of higher demand for the 40th. And you do pay much more for the privilege of staying in town in a condo or house. Anywhere in town is walkable/bike-able.
Keep an eye on the forum…sometimes plans change at the last minute.
Have you looked in Mountain Village? The gondola gets you back and forth pretty easy, making the fest easily walkable (but sometimes it closes perilously close to the end of nightgrass shows).
Camping doesn’t work for everyone. We’ve stayed for several years at the Camel’s Garden at the foot of the gondola. The good folks at this hotel start taking TBF reservations for the next year just after the previous year’s festival is over but I know from experience that they often have last-minute cancellations.
… we’re staying in Mountain Village this year … have stayed there several times in the past. I checked in-town properties; but wasn’t willing to spend 500-600+ per night in a cramped apartment turned condo. Scored a 240/nt 2 bedroom plus loft condo (w/ full kitchen and 2 full baths) at Mountain Lodge … can’t beat that! Taking the gondola over the mountain is always spectacular and didn’t have a problem getting back even after nightgrass shows.
definitely Mountain Village is the better value, but for those of us who have to work while at the fest, it is worth it to be able to run back to your condo and answer calls and emails for 15 minutes a few times a day, and not miss too much music!
My friends and I rented a great five bedroom, four bathroom home located on West Pacific Ave about 3 blocks from the gondola and six blocks from Town Park/festival area. We have a few spaces left to fill in this house for Thursday - Sunday nights. Of course, because of festival mark ups (and we booked in January), it isn’t super cheap, but it is reasonable (approx $135 a night per person). I haven’t posted on Craigslist - trying the Forum first. Please inquire on this Forum if you are still looking, Elise, and I can provide more details to anyone interested. Pass the word any other Forum friends.
