Anyone have a suggestion for hotels outside Telluride? Our Festival Family is growing, we are having our first baby in April, and camping with a 10 week old just doesn’t seem reasonable. It seems Montrose will have the most options, but we’d rather keep daily drives to under 30 minutes each way if possible.
We had such a great time last year, we really hope to return. We tried to entice the extended family to attend with us, but they are on east coast, and it’s just too hard to coordinate. Please, any suggestions folks?
Your best (and closest) bet is a town called Ridgeway. It’s closer than Montrose but still an hour’s drive. You can also stay in Ouray, which is just south of Ridgeway and BEAUTIFUL!!! It’s only another 10 minutes down the road from Ridgeway.
I assume you’re trying to save some $$$ by getting out of TRide proper??? You might check the Bluejay Lodge in Placerville - that would be within your 30 minute drive time. Rico Hotel in…yes, Rico, is reasonable & might even be a few minutes closer than Ridgeway - or maybe I was just driving faster… :fish
And I’ll just toss in that camping with a 10 week old isn’t so bad…they’re pretty easy at that age (nurse, poop,sleep,repeat). Our daughter was 12 weeks at her first fest. It’s a lot harder when they go mobile!
But it doesn’t matter if you camp or hotel, as long as you’re all there! :wave
Just remember. that is a lot of driving up and down the valley late at night. Plus you’ll have to shuttle back and forth to your car to and from the festival. If at all possible, I’d try to find away to stay in town. Just my $0.02.
Seems like 10 weeks old is reasonable to camp with our new baby… We have a nice big tent and shade shelter… High School campground might be the place? We need to figure this out soon. I’m have tempted to wait until people begin canceling reservations. Just hate waiting till the last minute!
We fell in love last year at Telluride, I want to go again. It would be my 3rd TBG, her 2nd, and the babies 1st!!
High School seems a good choice at this point. We did Town Park, but we’re old hands at this and had a family built in. If you have any specific questions about doing it with a baby, PM me.
We’ve stayed in Mtn Village (gondola ride away) a few years, camped in Ouray a couple times (1 hour 20 minutes one way (includes Gondola ride from Mtn Village), and last year and this year staying at an awesome townhome in Ridgway (40-45 minutes to Telluride … and they threw in a parking pass ). So, there are options closer than Montrose (a bit over an hour from Telluride). If you don’t mind a semi-short, scenic drive to and from the fest, Ridgway and Ouray will provide unforgettable experiences.
