So my wife and I will be coming to the fest for the first time in July. We have camping passes for
the Meadow Park campground. What sort of advice to folks have for first timers??
There are lots of similar posts in the forum if you search, but here’s a few quick thoughts:
- bring inner tubes for the river
- rockin’ big sunhats
- there are some really good food vendors (Asian dumplings, burritos, smoothies)
- make sure your festival chair is comfy
Feel free to post specific questions…there are lots of folks who’ll answer -
Get there as early as you can to get your camp site for best choice.
Plan for all seasons of weather, it hot during the day and can cool down at night.
Get lot of sleep before you come cause you won’t get much when your here.
Your two best choices, in the shade along the river or on the baseball diamond. If you set up your tent in the outfield the grass is comfortable, but there is no shade. If you can get in along the river the spots are nice but not as flat.

Umbrella…bring an umbrella
It does rain sometimes but an umbrella blocks the view of the folks behind you.
Better yet, wear some great rain gear and embrace the rain, dance in it, play in it. Have some great sloppy fun in it.
If you need shade wear a sun hat with a wide rim, sunscreen and a light longsleeve shirt…
We have had heavy rain overnight for the past two years but the days have generally been pretty sunny. I agree with another post that you should be prepared for both hot and sunny weather and also rain. You can arrive and set up camp a week early if you like but you will be paying the host 15$ per day. It’s pretty much a necesity if you plan to camp along the river or under the trees across the walking path from the river.
Drink often and heavily. :cheers
If you bring an umbrella, sit in the back. Last year at Folksfest, our view was blocked by people with big umbrella’s. The weather certainly warranted it, but think of the folks in back of you
If you have on site camping can you get access and set up camp a couple of days earlier? :thumbsup
After the Academy is over, and those that don’t stay for Rockygrass are gone they let those that have on site passes in (around 6:00 PM Thursday). :flower
OK Thanks Tom. :flower
How early do we have to get in line on Thursday for the on site camping? :wave
Some people get in line (and camp) on Tuesday and Wednesday. :eek
The later you get there, the less chance of finding a good spot.
bring earplugs for sleeping. just in case.
If you are staying in meadow park I think you can enter as early as the Monday before, and put your tarp down
for your spot, or even stay without paying the daily $15.
