Can we all take a moment to reflect on what happened this past Saturday? Greensky (with Fruition) at Red Rocks in the freezing rain. We stood out there for seven hours (some in my group for NINE). Whoa were we rewarded.
I’m struggling with the words to describe exactly what happened, but it was special. Really special. Seamless. Dark and light. Just beautiful. Was everyone else completely blown away? These guys arrived for me a long time ago, but something tells me they’re on the edge of another level of greatness.
I got skunked on Greensky Red Rocks tickets, but I have to confess when I saw the weather I could not feel too bad to have missed it. I went to hear Elephant Revival up there May 21, and while the music and the spirit were sublime, they were the third band, and as the night went on the wind blew harder and the rain came harder and colder. It was a great time for sure, but I prefer Red Rocks in mid-summer.
As to Greensky, I’ve seen them a number of times and yes whatever the heck IT is, they’ve got it and lay it out. My favorite performance was a couple years ago they played a late night show at DelFest with the Steep Canyon Rangers opening. Taking the stage at 2 am after a long day, they completely went wild until 4 am, one of my best musical experiences.
When GSBG announced their Red Rocks date, after my elation, i definitely got worried about the weather! It was cold and the rain only let up for Fruition’s (amazing) set. But it felt like it almost added to the night in some strange way. Everyone was there because they really, really wanted to be. Kinda enhanced the sense of community. But yes, mid-July next year, please! :lol
It was great seeing you and Nick at this amazing show! I had been driving over 9 hours through the rain to get there just after the gates opened!
In a weird way I think the cold rain DID add something! And the boys seemed to feed off our energy standing and dancing in it!! They really seemed to enjoy themselves and definitely brought the juice!
:burn
The Delfest show Steve speaks of sounds amazing also, but this show for me was a highlight for sure! :thumbsup
It was so good, Paul it was great seeing you before hand. Skubes sorry we didnt chat longer, had to hit the restroom IMMEDIATELY.
But yeah what a show, they definitely matched the energy in the crowd. We had to bring it to stay warm. The cool mist made Lincoln’s lights even more magical.
last time i was at that venue it rained&hailed hard, right after sharon jones
i was worried tedeschi trucks would not get to play
guy serving beer told me it happens all the time
they just wait it out. then wipe off the stage, and then start to play again!
what’s not to love about that attitude
Welp, looks like we’re rolling the dice on another September at Red Rocks! TWO NIGHTS?!?! Coupled with a night at the Ogden, I have no complaints. I don’t care if it snows, going to be a hell of a weekend. :burn
