Grateful Dead, Two more shows announced

You heard that right! the lottery is still open till April 14, for two shows on June 27,28 in Santa Clara celebrating the Dead’s first show (I think).
What a week some lucky few may have to go from Telluride to Santa Clara for another weekend of tie dyed hippie fun? Oh, and music too, eh?
Get the news here,

Crazy way they’re doing their mail order. You place your credit card info and if you’re picked you get best available in any section-floor, seats, nose bleeds. Ton of cheap seats behind the stage. I need a seat not GA on the floor. $65 service charge plus $60 for a parking pass in advance.

Talk about a thinly veiled money grab. The way these shows are being promoted upsets me.

If you read the letter the band put out when these were officially
Announced a few days ago, then you would understand the point
Was to try and keep these tix out of scalpers hands, thus selling
Them differently from Chicago. There is no fool proof way and don’t tell me
Show your ID and credit card when you go in. I’ve done that and
That experience sucked. Talk about the line from hell.
Fortunately, they can do whatever they want and nobody is forced
To buy anything. Thank goodness.
People are so spoiled and if things don’t go exactly how they see fit then
It’s all about the money, etc.
My suggestion would be to start your own band and run it how you see fit.
When you get to 50 years, then show everybody how to do it.

What IMHBTR said :thumbsup

Yeah, I’m grateful for 2 more shows! Pretty stoked since I’m moving to SF very soon so a short trip down to be a lucky witness to the experience (and my ninth and tenth shows in total).

I did read the letter and I understand they want to keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers, but the $60 parking fees and $65 Ticket Bastard service fee is nothing short of insanity. I love The Grateful Dead to no end. I never got the chance to see Jerry play as I’m too young, but this doesn’t seem like the proper way to honor his memory or the legacy of one of the greatest bands in history. I will also say again that Trey does not make them The Grateful Dead. I got to see The Dead in 2009 and Further in 2011 and am extremely grateful for those experiences. I truly hope those attending have a great and memorable experience. Maybe I am too idealistic; that’s not going to change. Enjoy the shows.

I’ve never taken the Deadhead community too seriously. I love their music
In all its forms as I do countless other bands. The unintentional/intentional
Comedy that life on tour has provided is through the roof for me and one of the great
Things about following and witnessing this band.

I have no affiliation with this guy but he encapsulates what I like
Best about the Deadhead world. His love for the Dead is evident
But his ability to see things for what they are is brilliant. If you have
A few moments and want to laugh a bit, read his blogs. I’m sure some of you
Guys on this thread have already done so. Kudos Dean.

Would love to meet any people on this thread in Chicago. Would love
To hear some good stories from TBF 2015.

The service charge is $32 per ticket if you select the max 199 price per ticket option.
The service charge is $23 per ticket if you select the 99 max price per ticket option.

These ticket master fees still suck but they are not 65 per ticket

This seems like a better way to celebrate the music of Jerry to me:

No interest in Santa Clara or Chicago. I have memories of hundreds of nights…some good, some bad, but they all had Jerry. I’ve heard some absolutely smoking recordings of Phil’s bands in the last 20 years, but nothing that is going to get me to spend all that money.

I agree. The Dear Jerry show seems like a much better way to honor this music.

I was mistaken. What I read must have been service fees for both nights. Still too much.

While this forum is not about the Grateful Dead, sure would be nice to hear from people who are planning on going to the Santa Clara shows and not from the Debbie Downers known as Hot Sugar and Jeff (sorry, boys, but you are harshing the buzz of what’s supposed to be a positive thread).

I am going if the Dead ticket lords are forever in my favor! :thumbsup

Who else?!?

:cheers

Hopefully, you get to ‘honor’ the music in Cali, Billy.
Wherever anyone gets to enjoy the tunes and vibe, it should
All be enjoyable, whether it’s TBF, Chitown, MD or Cali or a mix of
All. I was fortunate to see Jerry many times and that has no bearing
On a decision I would make in 2015. Hope it works out for you.

What’s the verdict Billy? I had 4 friends try and 2 succeeded and
2 got rejected.

I’m sorry I’ve been lurking on this thread for a bit. Hope you all have a blast at the dead shows. Would love to see that.

But for my money Greensky with Phil Leah is like butter and JAM on a biscuit.

Sorry wasn’t sure of a better spot to post this.

FESTIVAL!!!

Yeah, so I got my notice yesterday, am not to be one of the fortunate few 130,000 fans going to see the dead in Santa Clara. No exorbitant service fees, no $200 tickets, no problem, I’ll be in Telluride the week before then.
I’ve seen the Dead, last time was a few years back at Red Rocks. Great show, but they’re not the Grateful Dead who I’ve seen many times before in the bay area.
As for GSB and Phil, I’ve been enjoying the LoS videos coming out to Terrapin Stn with Phil.
On to Telluride!!!

Was shut out of Chicago, but have won 2 for Santa Clara on Sunday 6/28. My plan was to trade (if I did win- because I’m obligated that weekend) with someone who has 2 for any of the Chicago dates. So… I’m going to try and find out where there might be a trading site online. Of course tickets won’t go out until June, further complicating things. But… if I can’t find a way to trade here in Denver, I’ll be putting these up, at cost, somewhere on this board.

There is a website for trading: https://cashortrade.org/. However seems lots of people are/were thinking they could trade Santa Clara for Chicago (check out the website, already lots of people trying for this). It seems though that Chicago is going to remain the much more difficult ticket. Still lots of hype around Chicago, 3 shows versus 2, lots of pre and post shows from other great bands right in the city plus they are the “last shows”.

Good luck - hope you can find your trade. If not I’m sure you won’t have any difficulty finding a buyer.

For those going to Chicago, you might want to pick up some tix for this on
Thursday night. No rest for the wicked.

Yee haw! Dusters, Greensky, Keller.

Struck out on my end - still waiting for friends to report. Maybe begging for a tick with my Town Park. I’ll post on the ticket exchange board.
