Grand Junction Group!

Hey, any posters out there from Grand Junction? Let’s start a fun group here and talk about upcoming events and fun stuff on the Western Slope! Whaddya say?

Hi! I’m from Grand Junction too. But you know that, of course, since you know me! But it would be totally fun to hook up with other TBF festivarians for a pre-festival fest.

That sounds good to me too! Although I live in Montrose (it is the Western Slope afterall) there’s a lot of things going on all around this area. Have either of you been to the annual “Pickin’ at the Pavilion” here in Montrose in April?

Hi Tom. No, neither Daniela nor I have ever been. There is also a bluegrass festival in Hotchkiss that I’ve never attended.

Keep your ears open for an up-and-coming local GJ band called ‘Straygrass’. They are all TBF festivarians and are doing the band competition this year.

Former GJ’er (Palisade High and Mesa State), but had to move to the Front Range for the music!!! Just heard a rumor (?) that there might be a Yonder show coming your way…
Hopefully the Mesa Theater, not the Dance-Free Avalon. Saw you just had HBR and the Packway Handle Band, so the bluegrass is occasionally available.
And yes, Straygrass is starting to kick it. Gary has always been a great local talent, I’m glad he’s found the light in Bluegrass!

Now this is what I’m talking about! Tom, you should come up and see Straygrass if you get the chance. They will be playing in Fruita at the brewery this coming Friday. They are also playing a mini spring fest in Paonia next weekend with the Infamous String Dusters and the Hell Roaring String Band. You can check them out on their MySpace site http:www.myspace.com/straygrass. The gig in April sounds fun. Do you have a link to more info?

You should try to get over the hill to see them if you get the chance. They are an amazing up and coming band and Gary has written a bunch of his own stuff. Plus they tell stories about the TBF in between songs. It doesn’t get much better than that! I can’t wait to see them in Telluride.

Quite a few of us are from Junction. Almost every show i go to here in town i see somone i know from T-Ride. We are going to try real hard to get to the Straygrass show friday.
What do you all think of the way the ticket sales are being handled to John Prine? Rock said that it could affect the quality of the acts being brought into town, depending on how the sales go. I can’t remember how much it cost last time he was in town but the tickets to see him at the Palm Theater were $50.00 if i remember correctly.
2 weeks tell Jeff & Sam in Boulder :hop

Oh, cool, well, we’ll see you at the Boneyard on Friday, then. If you haven’t been there before, better get there early because it was standing room only by 8:30 last time I went, and it took half an hour to get a drink! Straygrass draws a huge crowd and the seating isn’t great. I’m doing a birthday there for a friend and so I’ll be there around 6:30 if you want me to save you a seat! Just let me know how many to save. As for John Prine, I think paying $60.00 per ticket including fees is a little pricey. I’d love to see him but was just surprised at how much tickets were. This is a small town with a small venue, after all.

Daniela

It would be great to have you guys come up to Montrose in April.
You can check out the Pickin’ at the Pavilion site for more information.

I may have to check out the Paonia show as it’s closer to home rather than driving all the way to Fruita on a Friday night. Thanks for the heads up.

Pickin’ At The Pavilion looks pretty good. But wait…it’s an indoor show? Where would I throw down my tarp and lawn chair?

Okay, so besides Pickin’ At The Pavilion and the Hotchkiss festival, what other semi-local festivals are there coming up before TBF…or after? Has anyone gone to the Moab Folks Festival in November? I’ve done the Lake City Wine And Music Festival once with Daniela and that was a pretty nice one. Very small. Good music. Good wine. Long drive home afterwards.

Yes, it’s an indoor show, but there’s camping available right there next to the Pavilion. You can throw down your lawn chair there. :lol

Whelp, that works for me. It’s been a long winter this year and I’m itching for music, camping, festivating, and Teva sandals.

I’m with ya, although I prefer Chaco sandals because they are made locally. :evil

Yes, I also have a pair of Chacos. But they don’t leave such a cool tan line like Tevas do.

I know, they leave a cooler line. :evil

Saw Straygrass last weekend. They were awesome!! Anyone wanting to come see them with me in Junction next time, I would love to party with some festivarians!!

Yeah, Straygrass was very good!! They had a pretty good crowd there to see them too.

I am not from the western slope, upstate NY native. I live in Boulder, but my 2 brothers and Mom and aunt’s and uncles live there on the wonderful Western slope or the REAL COLORADO, as I call it. My younger brother in Crawford and my Mom in Paonia. Can I get Grandfathered in under the many relatives living over there clause? I hope so. Huge Bluegrass fan, been to many Rocky grass festivals in Lyons, is there a better place to hear bluegrass? :thumbsup Glad to see there is a festivarian forum, how cool.

Sure, come join us!! Straygrass will be playing at the Spotlight Lounge tomorrow night (Saturday, 3-24). I highly recommend them to anyone that loves bluegrass or folk music! :wave
