I will do my best to ensure a video production of this event!
Jess maybe you could wrap the frog legs up in bacon and dip the whole thing in batter, then fry ‘til crispy and jumpin’ off the plate and into yo’ mouth. mmmm mmmm good
[/quote]
That would work too. I was thinking that since the batter is not very colorful having the bacon wrapped around the outside would add color, making the dish pleasing to all the senses. If you think about it, during the frying process the bacon will shrivel and of course the batter will expand. That will result in some lovely marbling of color and texture.
I think this is a fabulous dish in the making. Too bad I have the deep fryer, Hooch has the Crunchy Frog and the gourmet food store down in Phoenix has the frog legs…

The deep fried idea is really good, until you get to the crunchy frog… Please don’t try deep frying the crunchy frog - unless it’s of the amphibious variety after coating with macadamia nuts.
another friendly reminder from your friendly Hippie

Can’t we do some sort of deep fried morsel with a Crunchy Frog center? Kind of like the alcohol-filled chocolates you can buy except deep fried with bacon. We’ve got several months to perfect the recipe.
Combining all these ideas, this is what I think…
Get some frog legs. De-bone them. fill them with Crunchy Frog and seal the ends. Dip the Crunchy Frog filled frog legs in a thick beer batter. Then wrap with a piece of bacon. Deep fry at 350 degrees for probably no more than 7 minutes.
Frog legs? From real frogs? I like the concept in general but am having a bit of a problem getting past the Kermit The Frog and Doc Hopper images from The Muppet Movie.
Crunchy Frog (the drink) is very lemony. Does lemon go good with frog legs? Actually…does bacon go good with lemon? Perhaps not. How about we try a hooch filler instead? Maybe we should do hooch-filled deep-fried frog-leg batter-n-bacon nuggets.
actual being a girl with southern roots I can tell you frog legs are yummy and taste a lot like chicken. lemon and chicken go very well together and I think if you use a slightly sweeter smoked maple bacon for this dish the combination of flavors will be delightful. I think when folks bite into a deep-fried-frog-leg-batter-n-maple bacon- nugget and get that burst of lemony Crunchy Frog exploding across their palates…it will be the culinary hit of the decade.
I’m talking Martha Stewart…Oprah…the Food Channel

Sounds good, but I don’t know that I am going to Telluride next year. Right now I have tentative plans to spend two weeks in BC. And I have some river trip plans. As long as I have a job I can’t do everything. I’m more of a every 2 or 3 years Telluride attendee. Keeps it fresh for me and there are other things i do besides festivating that I am just as passionate if not more so about.
But sure, next I go I’ll bring the fryer. I’ll be the chick at 2am deep frying bacon every night…

Weekend Bacon Report
Weekend Bacon Report
Opps. Hit the wrong button
So last night we had a little gathering at the house. We had all kinds of yummy food and drink. But this is the bacon thread so I will only mention the billionaire bacon appetizer. 2lbs of bacon coated with brown sugar, cayenne pepper and cinammon - baked in the oven at 475 until crispy and the sugar caramelizes.
Then of course we had the firepan going out front and there was some pickin’.
And then of course things just evolved from there…
What is it they say? A picture tells a thousand words?

Wayyyyy cool. And completely safe, I’m sure! Do you get a hot air blast of bacon fumes when it goes off? Does your hair smell like bacon the next morning???

Perfectly safe! I am an experienced pig fat pyrotechnician. And if anything did go south I also have my wilderness first responder. Got it covered. Now I admit launching them in the front yard is a bit edgy, even for me. But what with it being fall and all the trees completely denuded we figured what the hell…
Exploding fat burns up very quickly. Not scent of bacon left anywhere

There was one gal who was a guest of the neighbors who didn’t get the memo that when Jess says “I have an idea” step back - immediately.
She was fine though. Never really at risk of getting blown up. She did cower behind her boyfriend for awhile afterward though.

LOVELAND, Colo. — There was a tasty race for Colorado senate when voters got to choose between Bacon and Fries.
In the end, Bacon won.
Democrat incumbent Bob Bacon defeated Republican challenger Matt Fries on Tuesday 63 percent to 37 percent to represent the district that encompasses most of Larimer County in northern Colorado.
“I am so pleased that the voters appreciate the work that I have done,” Bacon said
Bacon originally was elected to the seat in 2004 after serving three terms in the state House of Representatives. Fries is a long-time education advocate.
