This will be my first time at Folks, and am really looking forward to it. As I’m making some final preparations for the road trip from Chicago, a couple of questions came to mind:
Bringing instruments - just wondering if it’s OK (encouraged? frowned upon?) to bring instruments for some impromptu playing throughout the weekend? Seems like a very relaxed, mellow and friendly vibe based on everything I’ve read. What’s the atmosphere like at the camp grounds … do people get together a play a bit at night?
Alcohol rules - as a first-timer, I just want to make sure we’re not breaking any rules. On the site I saw something to the effect of alcohol not being permitted on the festival grounds. Does this include the camp grounds (specifically Meadow Park)?
Looking forward to a weekend of great music, and meeting some new friends along the way!
I had the same question – regarding instruments – they will then be in my tent while I’m 5 minutes up the road all day every day? Seems like I might be nervous walking away from my Taylor guitar… does everybody do it? I want to bring my djembe too but I don’t see much talk of that sort of instrument.
Should you bring your instrument? Ha! The song circles go on half the night!
And I’ve never heard of anybody’s guitar getting stolen out of their tent. I’ve been going for 11 years now, and I leave my Martin at my camp and don’t worry. The kind of people who go to the Folks Festival are cool folks.
Booze: yes, as long as you offer me a beer.
Bring your djembe, you’ll be in much demand at the song circles.
