Hi! My husband and I are 63 and 62, respectively, and have had plenty of experience going to shows and festivals since we were kids. :). We’re looking forward to our first TBF! We’re staying at a nearby (under a mile from the site) condo and will will walk there and back each day. I’m reading about the lottery and tarp run etc and wondering a bit more how this works. What time does anyone suggest we arrive each day, and will we receive lottery numbers for a place in line to get in? Thanks so much.
You have a few options, depending on what type of experience you want. If you want a “good” spot in the front section, you probably need to be up and in line by 5-6am! There will already be quite a few folks ahead of you but this time should get you a good spot for sure. Or, if your not too worried about being super close, you could aim to be in line when the gates open at 10am, and you’ll still have plenty of choices of spots just nothing that close. There’s really not a bad spot, and it sounds great everywhere. Third option is you don’t worry about where your spot is, set your chairs wherever you find space and “tarp hop” it’s a written rule that if someone has space on their tarp, or a tarp is unattended, you can go down and share the space or use the space until the owners return. Many times, especially for just 1-2 people this is the best option. Some folks offer tarp owners a beer or drink, and usually if your kind and ask folks you’ll have no problem getting a great seat on an open tarp. Good chance you’ll make new friends too.
Thank you!
Is the front for standing only?
I see photos where people are standing up front. Then I wonder how those seated behind them can see the stage well?
Usually it depends on the act. A more mellow act usually has people seated. But a fun energetic act or really popular act will often have more people standing and more people will walk up towards the front. Most of the standing people will be more towards the front. If you set up a little further back you can generally sit and have a view of the stage. For the last few acts it’s all standing up front. If you sit back in the high back chair section you will usually be ok sitting and having a good view as it’s a raised stage and you will be far enough back to see over heads.
Thank you, this is very helpful! ![]()
