First Fest this year

Ya. I was trying to figure how we’d get all that equipment on a plane. I’d prefer to just drive from Mass, but our cars aren’t so new, and besides, I don’t think we could stand being so “together” all that way, and we don’t have town park tickets. As much as I love sleeping out under the stars, perhaps we should look at the condo option. Do you fly to Denver and rent a car? Can you park at your condo and then walk to the festival? Do you do any east coast festivals? We try to get to Clifftop WV when we can, and we’ve done Merlefest several times. But Telluride is The Mother.

Last year we flew into Albuquerque and drove into Telluride - about 5 to 6 hours. This year we’re probably flying into Denver, although we do want to tack on one day to enjoy the Durango-Silverton Railroad, so we may fly into Albuquerque once again. Anywhere that Southwest flies - no extra fees for luggage. Once we were in our condo last year, we didn’t touch our car for 6 days - had parking in the condo garage (no extra charge). Everything is in walking distance, while Mountain Village was an easy gondola ride up and back. Yes, we’ve been doing Delfest the last 2 years - great preview to Telluride. Just heard about Cliftop just this past weekend, so I thought I’d look it up and figure out if we can do it. We just watched the documentary Bluegrass Journey, set at Greyfox (north of Albany, NY) and thought that might be worth checking out also.

Thanks for all your advice. I would love to fly through Albuquerque, as that’s where I went to college, but we’ll see. Clifftop is great if you like old time and play an instrument. There really is no line-up, just a couple of thousand folks camped out in the woods playing music. There is a dance hall and a band competition. Sam’s going to be at Greyfox this year!

Yes Jerry, please be gentle to our virgins :sorry AND our old-timers. Mel :hug, Hot Mess :horsey, Moonbeam and Lil Wayne :dancing were our virgins last year, and they ALL did a fantastic job :medal and I can’t wait to see each and every one of them again this year. :green

Congrats on the volunteer acceptance!
Last year was my first year, and I volunteered. It was an incredible experience, one that I will never forget. I am undoubtedly returning this year, and eagerly awaiting my acceptance email as well…

See you there!!! :flower

Hey All! This is going to be my girlfriend and I’s first year at Telluride, and my first time ever in Colorado! I had a question about Nightgrass shows. I will be staying Mary E this year, and was wondering how well the shuttle bus schedule works. Like if someone is playing an encore or something at a Nightgrass show will the shuttles wait? Are they pretty good about that thing. or do you just have to keep a close eye on your watch and maybe miss an encore if you have to? Any feedback would be much appreciated! :cheers

I believe they run until 2:00 AM

… so you should really keep an eye on your watch!

Ok thanks! Thanks for the heads up!

You can’t get into Town Park without either a TP or a Warner Field pass. I’ve never stayed in the condos, but I’m sure you can find someone to pick with. Besides, the real fun happens in the festival grounds :cheers

:wave

You can visit the TP campground until midnight Wednesday and there are plenty of activities there prior to the start of Festival.

But overnight camping, in any shape or form of passing out, is not allowed unless you have a Town Park wrist band. :cheers

Tickets for all Planet Bluegrass Festivals are selling out quickly this year. It would be best for you to purchase your tickets as soon as possible. :thumbsup

That would not be allowed. Have faith and vigilance and I’m sure you’ll find something!!

Yes, wagons are good. Many folks bring in their stuff, especially the EZ-UP and Kelty folks, and those with small children.

Now, about the cooler, we’ll need an Official Planet Bluegrass response on that one. I just can’t remember at the moment. Sorry.

From the Planet’s website:

Alcohol, Glass and Video Cameras are not allowed on the Festival grounds. You are welcome to bring your own food and soft drinks in appropriate containers. We serve beer and wine at the Festival (don’t forget your ID) and we have a wide assortment of vendors with reasonably priced yummy food, cool crafts, clothes and other stuff. Taping is permitted unless the performing artist requests otherwise.
