There is a pretty major fire in Eastern Arizona (which is only growing bigger), and I understand the smoke plume has affected parts of Colorado. I could see smoke from that fire being a factor at the festival, depending on the wind patterns in two weeks.
I found this news but sound like they are pretty much under control
In southern Colorado, officials report progress against two
wildfires that collectively have scorched about 20 square miles. A lightning-sparked fire on the Colorado-New Mexico border and a second fire at Purgatorie River Canyon northeast of Trinidad are both 90 percent contained.
There was, but it wasn’t nearly as big. The Wallow Fire (kind of between Hannagan Meadow and Alpine) is already at 140,000 acres (I think it was just 60,000 yesterday morning) and growing. Already Arizona’s 4th largest fire ever.
Here is the latest fire information from the Boise Fire Center:
Wallow, Apache-Sitgreaves NF. Twenty-three miles southwest of Alpine, AZ. Timber and grass. Extreme fire behavior. Structures threatened. Evacuations in effect. 120,600 acres
Horseshoe 2, Coronado NF. Seven miles southwest of Portal, AZ. Timber and grass. Active fire behavior with crown fire in canyons. Numerous structures threatened. Evacuations in effect. 90,200 acres
Osha, Carson NF. Four miles east of Penasco, NM. Timber. Moderate fire activity. Structures threatened. 700 acres
Murphy, Coronado NF. Five miles east of Arivaca, AZ. Grass. Active fire behavior. Structures threatened. 21,000 acres

Last year, May 23, 2010, there was a 500 hundred acre fire that closed Hwy 145 by Placerville for a time right before the fest. Have friends that were quite relieved to get the rain & snow in early June to control that one!
Today in the a.m I was east of Durango, clear blue sky. Drove into Durango, haze coming in. It will be hazy and smoky over the next week because the winds are gonna blow it this way.
Please be careful with your combustibles folks. More often than not the big fires are human-caused.
Another bluebird day in Dgo today. Not windy either. If the weather stays like this for TBF it’ll be perfect! It was actually kinda hot today, compared to the last couple of weeks.
Flying into Denver from Boston yesterday I was amazed at how far the smoke covers Colorado especially up and down the front range. Visibility was minimal and the smell is definitely in the air
So I just checked out the visittelluride.com webcam and it appears to be a bit hazy in the box canyon…hopefully the winds die down and they get a handle on this fire in the next few days!
We’re coming from Phoenix and were just talking about if we would be inconvenienced on our way to Telluride later this week. Last year we got re-routed on our way back from festi due to fires. We spent a lot of time on the phone with ADOT trying to get updates on highways that had been closed. I know in AZ there is a quick hotline you can reach by dialing 511 (I think), not quite sure of the out-of-state number we used to check on our way back. Their website, http://www.azdot.gov/ has interactive maps that can sometimes be useful for planning around closures, etc. We are leaving Friday so if we come across any closures causing us problems between now and then we’ll post 'em in the forum.
Update: found the out-of-state ADOT number: (Outside Arizona, dial 1-888-411-ROAD (7623) or 602-523-0244)
