Fastest route from Denver

We’ll be leaving Denver Tuesday morning. I want to take the quickest route to T-RIDE. Also if anyone has suggestions for scenic/ leisure drives back to Denver please let me know.

These two honeymooners thank all ya’ll

285-50-550 is definitely the best with a stopover in Gunny for a bite at the W or the Blue Iguana. 70 is fastest but way more semi’s/crazy people.

Fuck yeah, 285-50-550. Don’t even bother with I-70 unless your going stricktly at night if dusk is involved at all, which I advise against because of deer and elk, your gonna wanna see that sunset. All though very views things compare to a sunset in Glenwood canyon.

Warning: if you don’t know, the ruminants come down to the road during dusk best time to drive is during the day.

The fastest route? 70 West ->141S/US 50E ->US 550S → 62W → 145S

It’s longer than the 285 route by about 30 miles but you more than make up for it by doing 75 MPH.

You can save 15 minutes off your route via getting off I70 in Glennwood and taking 82 → Carbondale 133 → Delta hop back on 50/550. I’ve found that in the day, you can push this route up to a 20 minute savings, but at night it can be much slower going with a lot more winding roads … making it almost a wash with i-70. So, I will often take I70 to Clifton 141 → at night or during bad weather just to give myself a break.

Since there are like 6 different mini-options which are almost equal, it can help to check out CDOT’s website to see what’s going on re: construction:

Sweet!

:thumbsup We love it!

Sure, I’d prefer to not take I-70 at all, but with the trailer and the kids, once we pull put of the driveway here we’re on the high speed trip usually! This year we might stop for a night in Paonia, and then maybe take our time and stop for a night in Ridgway…cruise into camp in the AM (on a day to be determined), so for once we have all day to set up

There you are!!! Missin’ yah!

Thanks guys. This will be our first trip through CO. 2 nights in Denver before T-RIDE. want to get there early tuesday and then take our time home monday. thanx for the advice!!!

After 133 West, you need to take 92 West to hit 50/550 at Delta right?

If you want to see a different part of Colorado, and you are not in a hurry, Leaving TBF, take 145 to 141 and go through Norwood, Naturita, Gateway to Whitewater.

285-50-550!!

In addition to the blue iguana in Gunny…depending on the time (and actually from I70 or 285) a sandwich at the El Dorado Bakery & Cafe in Montrose is sooooo delicious.

Anybody else have good places to stop along the way from Denver for a bite to eat?

If you end up taking this route: I70 in Glennwood and taking 82 → Carbondale 133 → Delta hop back on 50/550

Peppino’s Pizza in Carbondale is great.

What about if you’re coming from the Fort Collins area?

I’ve debated on cutting threw to Estes Park and heading south over the Continental Divide to Grand Lake, CO. And then from there to Silverthorne.

I don’t think I would loose that much time, and the gorgeous drive threw the Scenic Rockies would be worth it. Don’t you think? I haven’t done the Estes>Grand Lake drive before…

Two Brothers Deli in Idaho Springs - excellent breakfast or sandwiches to take with you

:wave Ahhhh…the opportunity for cheap ads! If traveling through Evergreen stop at Da Kind Soups http://www.dakindsoups.com/

Tell them Connie from Restaurant Depot suggested it…doubts? check Yelp etc.

Enjoy!

Whatever route you take, be extra careful going through Montrose. They treat speeding tickets as a source of revenue. This is a notorious speedtrap.

State patrol hangs out all the way from Montrose … just saw one a few miles north of placerville having pulled someone over.

My favorite stop on I-70 is a health food store called Alpine Market & Deli. Great vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free deli options. Take the western frisco exit and it’ll be on your left in 1/4 mile.

There’s also a great health food store / deli in downtown Glenwood Springs … a couple blocks to the south of the river and a block or two east of 82 called Good Health Grocery. Same deal with veg/gluten free stuff … try their quinxua muffins.
