Everything a "NEWBIE" needs to know before they come

So being a Newbie myself I thought I would stir things up a bit and start a thread.
One thing I was looking for is something for the Festivirgins.
Now keep in mind some of us have attended more festivals then you could shake a stick at. So easy on the Newbie labels. However some of us have also not been to “your” festival. I for one have not and want nothing more than to have a good time and respect the traditions and have a blast at the same time.
So lets start off with a question…
What are some must haves on your Telluride adventure if you are camping?
And what are some must do’s at the Festival???

Pea’s
Lancaster From Bloomington Indiana

Must have warm clothes and good camping gear.

Clothes and gear for ALL seasons!

A transition Booze period of about 36 to 48 hours to acclamate, or Faceplantiusonthegroundus could potentially occur. Very Dangerous  :cheers

My short list of “must haves” always includes the following, of course it is always growing!

TOILET PAPER!
Portable light
Potable water
Food, food, food
lots of extra clothes
gifts for new friends!
Spare tire and tools
Tow chain
1 set of extra of bedding for that one unprepared person you always run into!
Rope or twine
Duct tape!
etc
etc

Also I have looked and still dont know EXACTLY what the tarp run is?
I read about it (people running with tarps etc, but why?
Is it a line that forms basically before the opening, then you run and claim your spot?
Because I am envisioning a huge slip and slide covered with beer!
Kind of and adult slip and slide if you will?

Yea, you run with your tarp to the space you want to claim for the day.
The tarp becomes your territory boundaries.
This method saves on the need to mark your spot through non-sanity ways.

If you aren’t there people can sit until you come back, and you can either kick them off of if there is room make new friends.

There is a big hill in Town Park. Maybe we need a trap sliding event, especially if it snows.

Also the town is a 10 minute walk and has anything you forget, although at small town prices. So I always make sure I have my tickets and my wallet at least. The rest I can get it town if need be

Well now I know!
Thank you very much!
We have 1000ft rolls of heavy duty plastic here where I work…
Anybody interested in joining in on the Worlds largest slip in slide?
Down the mountain on a thin layer of cheap beer?

memorize the song “Packing for Telluride” it will help you know the cast of characters that you will have to deal with in Town Park.

Where do I find the lyrics?

Funny I have a cartoon Logo that I have been working on with TBF in mind but have held back, it has to do with a slip and slide, ewww that reckless funnnnnnn…sign me up :lol

Even using cheap beer would be alcohol abuse. :lol

So the beers out…
Ok so it would have to be “stream side”
then we could re-circulate the water back to its source.
Maybe we could make it a competition on how many beers you can kill on your way down? Or for the non drinkers, maybe who can complete the most elaborate meal
while traveling 25mph downhill over total distance of 1000ft .
I mean come on there sober???
I think thats like 4 or 5 seconds?

Everyone seems to be mentioning clothes for when it gets cold, but during the day it gets real hot, so bring something cool that covers a decent amount of skin so as not to get burned, also sun screen is a must, I found that sandals are the most comfortable footwear as everything else is too hot, also a spray bottle filled with water helps to cool you down, and your neighbors love it!!! Drink LOTS of water, it’s free after all!!!

  • Sparkly things are always good.

  • Quarters for the campground showers.

  • Running shoes for the Landrush.

  • Hangover helper

Hope that helps!!!

If you cruise the titles of the posts, there are several that have “things to know, Town Park virgins, Packing for Telluride, etc” These threads have great information for what to expect, contribute, bring.

Another way to get up to speed is on the very first page of the forum, slide to the bottom of the page. There’s a little section about Forum Stats - last post etc. Click on more stats and you will see a list of the top threads.

That would be a good start. :cheers
