Driving from the SF bay area

So so so excited to be coming to Telluride this year for our first time!!!

We’ll be driving and I’m wondering if anyone has sights to be sure to see/routes to be sure to drive on our way to Telluride.

Thanks for any recommendations.

See you all soon!

Once you get past Sparks, Nevada cut over to Highway 50 and take it all the way.
It’s the straightest shot to Telluride from the SF Bay Area on the “Loneliest Highway in America”.
Just be sure you judge your gas mileage correctly as it’s a long way between towns.

Tom is correct, Highway 50 would be the way to go. Be prepared for scorching temps though and carry lots of water. Be very cautious driving through Montrose as it is a notorious speed trap. Especially with your CA plates!

:wave
Just before the UT/CO line go right on 191 to Moab , turn left at la sal junction and head into Telluride via Paradox and Naturita. Be sure to gas up in Moab, be well provisioned before leaving CA, then come introduce yourself when you get there.

That is the way to go for sure. Couple of things. On highway 50 it is so lonely that you are out in the middle of no where, and there is no rest stop for a hundred miles, you can stop your car in the middle of the road, and make your own rest area! Get back in the car and never see anyone! Two other things to consider. First Neveda Highway Patrol uses radar and they WILL catch you so be cautious! Yes that’s the only other car you will see on the road. Also on I70 in Utah, be aware of the suicidal Rabbits. They will pose along the side of the road and spring out in front of you at the very last minute…that can really mess with your car! :pirate

Also in Utah, right around Holden just before you hit Highway 15 you may catch the breeding of huge grasshoppers or locust swarming the road. The first time I saw them I thought they were tarantulas.
You’ll end up going north on 15 for a short distance and catch 50 again in Scipio.
