drinking/eating in durango?

hi all –

we’re spending a couple of days in durango before we head up to the festival next week and i was wondering if anyone – locals or past visitors – have any suggestions for food and drink there? i noticed there are (at least) three breweries – are any of the three better than the other for any particular reason? are there any notable restaurants? we love mexican food, notably, but are open to anything!

feel free to PM or e-mail me (zack _ adcock @ yahoo dot com) or simply respond here!

i also hope i haven’t grossly misplaced this post – to me it’s related to TBF!!

thanks for your help – we’ll see you next week!

Steamworks for the beer… and East by Southwest if you are into sushi. Homeslice pizza for a quick lunch before you head to T-ride. Nuff said.

Steamworks is awesome, Franciscos for mexican food lady falconburgs has great beer too :flower
Steaming bean for coffee

We visited Durango after TBF last year. I heartily recommend Steamworks Brewing too!! There was also this really cool restaurant right downtown and on a corner but the name escapes me. :huh But anyway it had really good food and nice outdoor patio in the back. I am sure somebody here knows its name

Hey Zack,

  1. Breakfast, I’d definitely recommend the Durango Diner (cash only), downtown. Bring your appetite if you order “The Cure”
  2. Lunch, check out Home Slice pizza @ 4th/College Ave. as captain pete mentioned. It’s amazing!
  3. Dinner, beer, I’d actually recommend Carver’s or Lady Falconburgh’s. Falco’s has cheap beer and good food, and you can usually find pretty much all of the local beers on tap. If you’re into IPAs or hoppy beers you shouldn’t miss the Conductor IPA at Steamworks–just be careful, it has a kick to it… :cheers

My favorite brewery is definitely Ska and you can find their beers in most restaurants and liqour stores. It’s hard to go wrong with eats and drinks here in Durango so I’m sure you’ll have a good time wherever you go. Check out http://www.durangomenu.com/index.html for some ideas.

Are you going to be camping/hiking too?

P.S. If you want traditional Mexican tacos check out Tacos Nayarit on 550 North of downtown…

thanks all for your help! this is great information for us!

since i’ll be with my parents who aren’t too into hiking/camping, we’re hoping to eat some good food, drink some good beers, check out mesa verde, and my dad is intent on riding the durango-silverton railroad so we have reservations on that as well.

Sounds like a great time…Enjoy Durango!

Lady Falconburghs on monday nights has pint night! It’s always a fun scene! OH and cuckoos! Great wings. Try the asian persuasian. mmmmmm I miss Durango.

Steamworks, Carvers, Ska, Durango Brewing. Try 'em all.
Zia Taqueria, Gazpachos, or Cocina Linda for mexican food, Francisco’s is TexMex and well, not mexican food but gringo food. Tequila’s is good but also gringo.
Season’s for dinner (make a reservation). Get some apps and split an entree and split a dessert. yummy and a great way to try a lot of different things.
Great wine bar and pastries at Jean-Pierre (breakfast and lunch too).

DSNGRR is a full-day outing, and they have a great railroad museum at the depot. Mesa Verde is a full-day outing, so start out early and stay late if you can, the sunsets are spectacular. On the way is a great place in Mancos for breakfast, the Absolute Bakery. Turn left at the light, go 2 1/2 blocks and it’s on the right. I think they sell box lunches too.
Just stay away from the “touristy” places in Dgo. They charge too much and it’s mostly crap.

:wave Mesa Verde is really a two day trip…
One Day for the Weatherhill Mesa loop
Another day for Spruce tree, Balcony, and Cliff palace…

:peace

If your in town on the 11th, Cadillac sky is playing at the Abbey. Great Band…

You’re probably thinking of Olde Tymer’s Cafe.

And I forgot to mention Guido’s Italian Market has a restaurant too, or you can pick up some nice deli food there for traveling.

OOOHHHH we just saw these guys two weeks ago in at Planet Bluegrass… everyone left taking about how it might have been the most amazing show they ever saw. New guitar player… sick… just hard to find 5 people hitting it harder than these guys right now. Check 'em out!!!
