Denver Highspots

We will have a couple of spare days in Denver before heading for TBF, would welcome any advice on the best things to see both Historical and Cultural (bars n music) while we’re there.

Also advice on somewhere cheap n safe to stay for a couple days would be appreciated.

Travelling from the UK not been to Denver ever before, tho well verse in the USofA.

:cheers

When we come out we usually go right to Boulder for a few days. It’s about 40 minutes away from DIA. It’s a much smaller and incredibly scenic town packed full of music and it’s all wrapped up in a small little package. Very convenient, incredibly walkable, hike the Flatirons, etc.

The Boulderado is THE hotel to stay in. http://www.boulderado.com/

Have to agree with checking out Boulder … awesome place to visit. I will add that you may want to check out Foot of the Mountain Motel for accomodations … 80.00/nite (US) or so, versus 220.00 (US) per night to start at the Boulderado ;).

Denver has a great Art Museum. But I would take the 1 hour drive to Boulder…
The Boulder theater is a great place to hear live music. The Chitagua dining hall in Boulder on the veranda for breakfast is a favorite place for me and they also have a view and a great auditorium for live music.
I’m not sure how much cash you want to spend so, yes the Boulderado is a great hotel, but expensive… but I agree with Billy Bob Thornton, too many antiques give me the creeps :lol This Hotel is loaded with them…

Boulder is very safe, so pretty much anywhere is ok, there is a great B&B on 9th and Pine, I think it’s called The Morning Star. If your looking for the true local feel .

mountain sun mountain sun mountain sun (boulder).

:hop :clap :hop It's Friday ! :hop :clap :hop

What’s going on in Boulder tonight?

Vine St Brewery is run by the same good folks, has the same menu, and is bigger, less crowded, and more important for those of in Denver: It is in Denver!

Only reason to go Boulder now is for shows!

Thanks Apollo, after a 15 hours flight the thought of schlepping over to Boulder wasnt appealing.

Vine St sounds right up our alley. :cheers

you’re all telling the poor guy to go to boulder? really? i guess none of you live here huh?
in my incredibly biased opinion, denver is much more interesting than boulder. it’s actually a city with culture, unlike the small whitebread yuppie homogeneity that is the republic.

vine street is a good option. also check out the cheeky monk for good beer.

i live in capitol hill and hang out at divey bars, so i don’t know if that’s your scene, but around there i enjoy sancho’s, the park tavern and don’s for bars, and places like govnr’s park, city grille, benny’s, cap city tavern for restaurants.

more downtown-ish, check out the whiskey bar, apaloosa, and rock bottom brewery to name a few.

And let’s not forget to tell him about Chapoltipeks ( ok Brian this is totally spelled wrong ) :lol for some smokin jazz… a tad seedy but smokin hot music.

Dive bars and drinking beer. yes yes yes

Im in heaven :cheers

Shame about the exchange rate. Ouch !

Yeah, I was.

The Quixote’s family of venues/bars will offer a few more options…

Sancho’s Broken Arrow is a great Dead themed bar!

Great call on Sancho’s! :thumbsup You’ll most likely find a few festivarians there… we often frequent that place before heading out to see music in town.

Let us know when you’re arriving and we’ll gather for a meet-n-greet before the fest… provided we aren’t already ABGATing in Telluride! :drunk

If I had the choice, I’d get out of and as far away from the city as I could. If you like hot springs, you could head down towards Buena Vista and hit all the springs along the collegiate peaks, then check out Crested Butte or go over the hill to Aspen, or go to Pagosa Springs to the Springs Resort, over to Durango, then up to Telluride. You can always head further south to New Mexico and go to Taos and Santa Fe, Red River and Angel Fire, all around the Enchanted Circle.
The mountains and the scenery in this part of the country should be enjoyed and explored as much as possible. Lake City, Creede, Breckenridge, Nederland, or Buena Vista and Salida for rafting on the Arkansas is spectacular.
I can guarantee you that even the tiniest towns will have a dive bar with cold beer and some sort of entertainment, even if it is just a jukebox.
You can send for a free Colorado Visitor’s Guide at : www.colorado.com
Any place you choose to visit, be it city or country, will be very glad to welcome you.
As a 33-year Colorado resident, I’m a bit prejudiced towards the beauty here that surrounds us, and I just love it when tourists see the mountains for their first time.
You might want to get warmed up before you hit Tride, cuz it’s gonna blow your mind! :welcome

Why thnak you Cindy Lou, we are still in the planning stage and will pour this into the pot.

Gonna order my guide now.

Thanks.
