Cross Country Packing Tips?

Hey everyone :wave

I am a newcomer to the festival and i’ll be driving across the country from Philadelphia with 2 other newcomers as well, and finally picking up a 3rd in denver and then coming to telluride! :drive
Being new to the whole thing and generally unsure of how best to pack for this 3 or so week trip, i am wondering if anyone’s got some tips! we’ll be driving a nicely sized subaru outback with some extra packing space on the roof rack. if anyone has some tips on how to save space and money at the same time, they would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

no tips except to say bring everything you can. Telluride is everything you can imagine and a whole lot more. you should pack for all seasons.

Tough question…all I got is:

first priority are things to keep you warm and dry.

Clothes that multi-task, can be used in layers are good. An example are pants that convert from full legs to shorts.

I try to bring oversized ski shells so there’s room for layers underneath.

Bring money for food/booze/groceries rather than burning the gas.

That’s about it.

Road trip!!! :wave

Good Boots
Sleep Nude …with some one is better :cheers :cheers

SUR! :evil

(BAM! She get’s him again!) :lol

Pack clothing first… Layers, like everyone has mentioned.

Pack camp gear second.
Tent, TARPS!, tools, tarps sleeping bags, tarps extra blankets (got down? BRING IT!) tarps, sleeping pad of choice, and tarps.

Bedding should also be in layers and you should have as many layers UNDER you as OVER you! (On this note… If you don’t have an extra sleeping layer, DO NOT SUFFER IN THE COLD. Grab one of your tarps, wrap your sleeping gear and then climb inside. It will make a world of difference in the warmth level.)

Pack kitchen gear third… bring the basics and if you forget something, chances are that someone that lives closer will have it and let you borrow it. You DO NEED that Nalgene/water bottle(s). You DO NEED re-usable plates, cups and silverware.

And Forth… UNPACK any food and snacks and place them in re-useable containers for the trip. Don’t bring the garbage with you. Major groceries are available in Montrose, Colorado, at King Soopers City Market or in Telluride proper.

Again, clothing, sleeping… cooking… the basics. Oh, and two hats, shade and cold. Yup! Two hats!

Have a staging area for everything, weed out what you obviously don’t need, stage it again, check the several lists on this forum and use them, they are from seasoned Telluride Vets, pack the vehicle.

Now… have you packed the road trip music??? :eek

a suggestion for an inexpensive space saver is the rooftop ‘rain-x’ brand luggage bag which is sold at most u-haul stores. it’s foldable (like a tarp) and can fit all of our camping gear on top of the station wagon which leaves a lot more comfy room for us inside, plus it’s completly waterproof.

here’s a link to lots of different shapes and sizes of luggage bags… http://www.daysinnhmb.com/top-rooftop-luggage/ i don’t see the ‘rain-x’ brand, but these should give you a good idea…

also big rubbermaid type boxes and stuff sacks always come in handy when packing a car for a long trip. we’ve got one big blue box that we just use as an ‘everything’ box and its great just to stuff coats, food, drinks, basically anything in while on the road.

woow thanks everyone for the advice. very helpful! i think i really hadnt considered how cold it gets at night, and it sounds like it gets pretty damn cold, so thank you all for reminding me of that. it’ll be a long drive but i’ll see yall out there!
:cheers

but it’s a dry cold :lol

I need a clone to help me pack the truck.

:peace

stop whining and start packing! :whip

I need my clone from now until June 20, 12:01 am. Lots of packin’ for Telluride, and too many Festishows for one guy to see. Can’t wait to relax on the festifield. :zzz :headphones
