Complete Newbies and staying at Cayton campground

My younger sister and I are coming down for all four days of the festival and we are a bit, how do you say, AMATEUR at the whole traveling alone. Camping is not a huge issue for us, but all I could find for available camping was at Cayton Campground. We live in the Black Hills and down gravel roads so we are used to late night hilly roads and wildlife. Is Cayton a decent park and safe?

I don’t think I am the one fretting too hard about it, its our father! His baby girls alone… Ha, ha, ha… Just trying to get the best positive feelings for him to go on and we have a pop-up camper. No water hookups for it. We would love to camp closer or tent on grounds if anyone has room to squeeze us in. I will keep my eye on the resale page for tickets available. I think for our first time we would do much better in town.

Also we will traveling from Rapid City down to Buena Vista on Sunday to whitewater raft and go on down to Pagosa Springs and on to Four Corners. Yes, we will be back tracking a tad, but my little sis has never been down that way. We plan on arriving in Telluride later Wednesday. I have been through the area several times when I was working with the NHSRA and we had nationals in Gallup and Farmington. I have no worries about traveling down that way and if someone might need a ride from the Denver area we have room.

Any and all help would be great. We are very, very excited for this trip… Its all we talk about!

I’m not familiar with the Cayton camp ground, I’m assuming it is forest service? Things to remember. You will need to park your rig at Mountain Village and take the gondola or a shuttle into town and the festival.
Pre-Fest activities start the weekend before festival so if you can get there a bit earlier than Wednesday night, you won’t regret it. Tell your Pops we are a very friendly fun loving bunch that would never allow harm to come to any one of us. Tell him you will be in safe and loving hands.

Cayton campground is in Rico and it’s a quick, short jaunt to Mountain Village.
If you can get there early enough on Wednesday, or Tuesday evening, you can take the gondola down into town and enjoy the rumballs with us (about 5 or 6 PM) in Town Park.
You’re gonna have a blast and meet some of the friendliest people on the planet. :thumbsup
