Can someone explain the lottery?

I’ve been reading here and there about a lottery system used when in line to enter the festival grounds. How does this work? Will we be given lottery numbers while in line? Thank you for any guidance on this!

Applies only for Town Park and Warner.

Do you mean the campgrounds?
If so, then if I’m not camping, I just go in line and don’t receive a lottery number?
Forgive my ignorance, this is all new to me!

Yes the campgrounds.

Thank you.
So there’s a different line to get in if you’re not camping? And no lottery in that situation?

Correct. Non campers, Lawson Hill Campers and Mary E campers go through a separate entry and line. Town Park campers and Warner campers have their own line and get random numbers.

So how does the lottery work for non-campers (which I think was the OP’s question)? The TBF website FAQ explains that you can set up chairs to get in line the day before, but it’s not clear why you’d do this if they’re handing out random numbers each morning and those numbers determine order of entry (regardless of where you were in line - why sit in line all night then?). I’d love if someone could walk me through a step by step explanation of how this works, especially since it’s apparently changed a little this year.

It’s admittedly a bit confusing on the website but there are 2 lines and procedures outlined in the FAQ.

  1. Regular entry - numbers handed out in order of the line
  2. Town Park/Warner Field Campers only - random numbers handed out

Does that clarify?

So if you’re in the regular entry line, the first person in line gets #1, second gets #2, etc.? i.e. the only way you get a top tarp position is by having someone wait in line all night?

Also - where does the line begin for non-campers? (The regular entry line?)

Correct first person is #1, line starts by the box office by the post office along the river.
