It pays to have patience. Tickets always start shaking loose in the month leading up to the festival.

By the same token, perhaps those who initially purchased more tickets than they needed might think twice next year about doing the same.

This is the story every year. There are alays tickets to be had.
You never know until day 1 what the demand really is. I had an extra each of the last two years which I ended up not needing… Two years ago I couldn’t get more than $50 for it, but last year it took just a few minutes to unload it at face value.
I don’t know that there’s really anything to make of extras being available two weeks before the festival… This is probably when those people who bought tickets for their friends would really start trying to unload them.
I think that’s the primary source of all the tickets going up. There are definitely a few from people who planned to come and are now finding out they won’t be able to make it. But I think most are coming from people who bought extras for their friends that said they’d come but have backed out. It happens every year.
Part of the problem is the lottery system itself. (Not that I’m complaining; there’s no perfect system.) My friends and I got shut out of the TP/WF lottery this year, but managed to get 4-day passes during the initial online insanity. We hung onto those passes until we were able to secure WF passes… so are now selling the 4-day passes. Plus a couple of our usual crew just found out a couple of weeks ago that they wouldn’t be able to make this year. We never intended to end up with extras!
