I’m hosting a bluegrass radio show (The Borealis Bluegrass Breakdown - out of Anchorage Alaska www.knba.org) and we’re looking forward to doing a show highlighting bands that have won the TBF band competition. Can anyone help me come up with a list of past competition winners?
I’ve email planet bluegrass but they aren’t responding so I figured I would go to the more knowledgable source - my fellow Festivarians!

The Dixie Chicks won in 90 or 91. Not sure which. Other than Spring Creek, which has already been listed, that’s about all I know.
I’m pretty sure Nickel Creek won at some point, not sure on the year though.
I know that Bearfoot Bluegrass won in 2001 so that keeps the list growing.

QUESTION: Did Yonder & The Stringdusters start out with the band contest at TBF?

Yonder didn’t. Not sure about the Dusters.
I know the contest winners get a spot on stage the following year.
I’m not sure if they’re mentioned each year in the program, but I guess it’s worth a look
through the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Program Archive. :thumbsup
