Does anybody know who is in the finals???
anybody, anybody??
Well I just saw The Blackberry Bushes Stringband on the street and they are DEFINITELY in.
That just leaves 2 more!
My guess would be the Hillbenders and the Headliners, but those are just guesses after seeing all 12 bands this morning.
The Hillbenders won the competition with two great showings!
The Hillbenders, from Springfield, MO won the band contest. Congrats to them!!
Great group of bands this year at the contest.
I was a bit surprised by the inclusion of Giddyup, Kitty in the finals which sure didn’t match my feelings.
The Hillbenders were great and energetic. I’d also recommend everyone check out “The Blackberry Bushes Stringband” out of Olympia, Washington who won second place and were FANTASTIC as well.
We also very much enjoyed the Headliner Bluegrass band and the Crawfish band that was in the preliminaries.
Fine crop of band contestents this year. Great job Headline, Crawdaddies and all bands! Can someone provide a list of the five (?) finalists, and final results with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winning bands? Grand Festival: variety, diversity, and above artistic excellence. And thanks to the musicians, Planet Bluegrass, KOTO.org, and fans!

Hi-
I was one of the “No Depression” bloggers at the festival this year. Here’s my band competition post that focuses on Headline… and the Hillbenders.
No Depression Telluride Band Competition Blog
All the bands brought something special to the competition.
Ron (other) in Albuquerque-
HEADLINE Bluegrass Band would like to extend our most sincere thanks for all the kindness, support, and love!!! We had and absolute blast playing at Wander-in, Steamboat Crossroads, and Elks Park. We were thrilled that so many folks seemed to really enjoy what we do. THANK YOU MUCH!!
We would also like to congratulate the Hillbenders!!! A FANTASTIC band that truly deserved the win!! These guys are going to be BIG!!
Much Love!!!
Nathan Furiga
HEADLINE Bluegrass Band
Hey Nathan! You guys were great! Also, I have a great photo of Flagstaff Jess grabbing your ass during the Wander-In gig!
that was a set up! Hooch made me grab your ass. But hey, not that I minded much :eek
Hillbenders were just excellent! I was mighty good friends with those folks years ago when many of them were in the Arkamo Rangers. This was the first time that I had seen them since they were the Hellbenders(I mean Hillbenders) and they just blew me away. Jimmy, the guitar player, conveys energy that just makes me smile and get excited. Congrats to the boys and I am looking forward to their set next year!
Jimmy really inpressed me when they played for us in Camp !
:cheers
After seeing the preliminary round in Elks Park I was already convinced that the Hillbenders have to win the competition. Their dobro player (Chad Graves) is one of the best I’ve ever seen. However, on their webpage it looks as if he is not a full band member, but rather joins them occasionally as a guest. I just hope that he’s with them on the main stage next year.
