I’ve been reading through the forum and FAQ, but keep finding nuggets of info not compiled for mass consumption. My question is just that…is there a comprehensive article, post, PDF, etc. that covers everything?
I’m driving in from Houston and arriving Thursday (mid-day). I had no idea camping passes started on Monday. (Yikes!)
I want to ensure that I get a decent spot for my tent, understand the rules of “tarp numbers??” for the actual festival, etc. I was confused because the site says gates open at 6 pm for camping on Thursday.

Needless to say, this is my first festival ever, and I want to make sure everything goes smoothly.
I am bringing my tent, cot, folding table, propane stove, etc for camping.
Do I need to claim an area (someone mentioned police tape?)

I also read there is a river…bathing suit??

What do I need for the actual festival?
I have an EZ-up, are those permitted? Worth the effort?
What about taking a rolling cooler into the festival? Good idea? Bad idea?
I understand there are vendors selling food and drink. How much should I plan on budgeting for one meal bought in the festival? Any recommendations?

Is alcohol (in plastic containers) allowed in camp?

I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself and looking forward to escaping the 100+ degree heat we are having now and getting to see Shane K. He’s the whole reason I’m making the drive…and I (heart) Colorado. :slight_smile:

ALSO! (Cuz I forgot)…
What about:
Water (do I need to bring in all cooking / drinking water)
Ground fires? (Camp fires)
Grills? (I have a small weber that sits on the ground).
Propane?
Liquid fuel lanterns (or do they have to be propane?)
Trash? (Dumpster available?)
Cell Service/Data/Wi-Fi? (I have AT&T)
Wash station? (For pots and pans?)
What do I do with grey water from cooking/washing?

Just want to make sure I’m respecting the rules and planning accordingly…in Texas, you’d just dump grey water on the ground and there would be water provided at the site…not sure how ya’ll roll in Colorado, but I’m guessing it’s more Eco-friendly. :slight_smile:

Oh and I make a mean breakfast…so whoever helps this gal here, will have some grub waiting for them if they want it. :slight_smile:

ok ready?..
some people start lining up at Bohn park on Sunday Aug 9th 4pm to enter the campground on Thursday Aug 13th 6pm…this is the first of many lines…you will find yourself in lines of lines, but all a good fun experience…please know that there are plenty of people who arrive on Thursday and find a rockin’ camp spot. People line up for tarp numbers at midnight each Thursday/Friday/Saturday at midnight, bring a chair and a guitar, meet new people have fun!

Yes there is a river, bring a tube if you have one! yep, swimsuits…also there are onsite showers.

EZ tents can be nice (the sun can be wicked hot), though if it’s just you, ‘claim’ a tarp spot, then periodically head to the river and shade (you can still totally hear the music)

You can take a rolling cooler, no glass allowed on music grounds, and I believe you are not allowed to bring in your own beers in cans (?) but you can have whatever you want back at camp (just don’t be an ass)

budget $10 meal with drink…so many yummy choices, also treats like crepes and ice cream, good beer on tap (get one of the cool metal cups!) there is also an awesome little market in town walking distance (more expensive than Costco but WAY cooler) to buy food, etc

there are water spigots in the campsite, as well as on music grounds

no fires allowed, though there are super fun ‘campfire circles’ all night with people jammin’

propane (or white gas) camp stoves allowed in campground

yes trash, also recycling and compost (you are in earth conscious Colorado!)

no sure about AT&T

a few big utility sinks on music grounds near bathrooms for washing, just bring a dish bucket to carry them over

oh yeah, I always bring earplugs…so whenever I’m ready to sleep and others aren’t !

To add to Karin’s great info:

I’m also not sure about AT&T. You can get free wifi at the Stone Cup (coffee shop) – about a 5 minute walk and across the street from the natural food store.

There are water filters in the on site campground as well as the festival grounds. (Not sure about Meadow Park or River Bend campgrounds.)

No glass or alcohol are allowed into the festival grounds, but you’re welcome to have them in the campground.

I think grills are OK. I usually buy food from the vendors so don’t bring a lot of cooking stuff. Also, I think you can buy ice on site if you don’t want to walk into town for it. Not 100% sure about that. I camp at Meadow Park and the Lyons Fire Department comes through every morning with ice for sale.

Assuming you’re camping on site, there are two main areas. The one behind the stage is for tents only and has more shade. The larger one allows vehicles and is where the tarp number line up happens. Avoid setting up near the Big Orange Tent (vehicle area) if you are bothered by music throughout the night.

I’m getting so excited!
It is just my friend and I, and we want to be in the tent only area - so that would be the north side (perfect!)

The plan is to just bring food for breakfast, make some sammies & fruit for lunch and buy food on the afternoons we feel lazy.
Same goes for dinner. We are preparing 3 dinners while there, that’s it.
Dinner 1: rotisserie chicken that we will pick up in Boulder, when we stop there for groceries…figuring the store in Lyons will be over-run (plus I’ll make a Greek salad)
Dinner 2: Jambalaya and bagged salad,
Dinner 3: fajitas, chips and guac,
I don’t want to bring “the kitchen sink”, but the more I plan my list, the bigger it grows. NARF!

I have a big camp mug (think 16 oz) that I clip on my waist. That should work, right? And I read to bring your own utensils into the festival, as vendors are charging for disposables. (I WISH Texas would get on the eco band wagon. Seriously, we are the state of disposable everything. sigh)
