Advice on bringing bikes - where to store, what kind to bring

So 4 of us from Canada will be heading to TBF for the first time ever - doing the full on festivarian experience and camping in TP/Warner Field (yeah 2 separate campsites selected by the lottery). Two of us are experienced cyclists and planning on bringing our road bikes so we could get in a bit of time on the roads. Question #1 - Where to store/lock up these bikes? Question #2 - should we instead bring trail bikes and plan on riding the trails and around town. Question #3 - is it possible to take a bike up to TMV on the gondola?

Looking forward to this - first time back to Telluride in 34 years!

So im going to answer your questions in reverse order bcuz of the amount
of red wine I have consumed while cooking fillets and watching football.

  1. Yes the gondola will carry your bikes for you

  2. If you have down hill Mtn Bikes you can hit the down hill trails
on Telluride ski mtn with a free lift pass “I believe” double check that
fo sho!!! otherwise there is plenty of road bike riding.

  3. There are bike racks ALL over Telluride to lock bikes up at.
I personally stay in Warner Field and lock my bikes to the fence
with zero worries. You can only access Warner Field or Town
Park camp grounds with an approved wrist band. All of which
is an amazing family of festivarians that are not out to steal a
bicycle but to IMO watch out for one another so I hope this
    helps your decision.

  4. BRING YOUR BIKES!!!
If you don’t you will be kicking yourself in the arse until
    Telluride 2016!!!

Thanks, good advice as always from festevarians

Bikes come every year it makes baked runs (youll get it) shorter. We do lookout for eachother but a quick snap lock will not hurt. 10 yrs with no incident but not saying it cant happen fortunatly you will be gathering around some off the coolest folks on the planet. So bringem and use courtesy and common biking etiquette youll be fine. See ya there

Is it recommended to bring bikes if we are staying at Mary E Illum? I understand that it is 7 miles from the actual festival. Would we be able to bring our bikes on the shuttle if we do not feel like riding to/from camp?

The goose can carry bikes but that is not so easy on the bus

I believe there may be a bike trail from Ilium to town but it’s a pretty hard ride. You have to be in seriously good shape to do it.
The road is off limits to bikes since it’s so narrow with steep drop offs.
I know for certain there’s a bike trail from Lawson Hill to town and that one isn’t so bad.
I think they strap bikes to the front or back of the shuttles.
