Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet featuring Béla Fleck plus Vusi Mahlasela
[i]Live Show: Thursday, Apr 24, 2008 7:00 pm
Location: The Boulder Theater

etown turns 17 years old this week and celebrates with a classic, broad mix of music that is wildly diverse yet closely connected…

Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet featuring Béla Fleck (banjo), Casey Driessen (fiddle) and Ben Sollee (cello) cross global and cultural lines while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions of Appalachian American music.

Vusi Mahlasela, simply known as “The Voice” in his home-country, South Africa, is celebrated for his distinct, powerful voice and his poetic, optimistic lyrics. His songs of hope connect Apartheid-scarred South Africa with its promise for a better future.

Béla Fleck recently journeyed across Africa to explore the origins of the banjo and record and shoot a documentary, ‘Throw Down Your Heart,’ premiering at festivals nationwide this year.

And there is a fascinating e-chievement award interview with a Florida man who has stepped up to save endangered wildlife in a most unique way!

ALSO! At this show, please help support our community foodbank, the nonprofit efaa (Emergency Family Assistance Association). efaa has seen a dramatic decline in food donations since the end of 2007 –- in fact, their food banks haven’t been this low in over 10 years. Please help re-build our local food bank by bringing non-perishable food items to donate at the show. Visit http://www.efaa.org for a list of the most needed items.

Thanks for the link(s) I plan on attending this one!

Kevin,
I just saw Bela’s documentry film, “Throw Down Your Heart” this evening. Vusi is in the film. You DO NOT want to miss the performance at the Boulder. Bela and Vusi LIVE should be AMAZING.

Auntie Hope

I will be there as well!

Enjoy what should be a gem of an e-Town taping, folks! I’d be there, but
I’m visiting my family in upstate NY this weekend (redeye’ing it tonight!)
