Hope quote from above: (still haven’t figured out the quote boxes yet…)
"I have a little to add to this…
BUT THE BAND IS REALLY GETTING HOT! and I CAN SEE SAM BUSH IN THE STAGE WINGS! and OMG! MUMFORD IS WITH JERRY D. AND BELA! OMG! I have to leave NOW???
As Dustin alluded, the less numbers of folks that know about the Nightgrass shows, the better chance YOU have of seeing the show of YOUR dreams. These are the best dreams of FESTIVVVAAALLL!!! It’s better to keep these dreams to yourself! :thumbsup
(Disclaimer: Guest musicians are not guaranteed at any Nightgrass show… but it could happen.)"
your awesome hope!
and to put my 2 cents in, i’ll say that i love the idea of keeping nightgrass announcements to our forumvarian friends for now. any chances i have to increase seeing some midnight magic on stage i happily welcome, and if you’re reading this now, that means you too :cheers
I don’t mind taking my chances with the masses, I figure keeping the doors as wide open as possible (apart from scalpers) will only underscore the fate of where you wind up later at night … which will be the place you’re supposed to be.
IMO, “tethering” nightgrass tix to festival tix might undermine the “general availability” of bluegrass which keeps it open to as wide an audience as possible on several different fronts. In reality, I don’t think it’s going to serve as a “backdoor” for people to flood up here and be “stuck” & cause problems. First off, I think there’s going to be a huge demand from folks who already have festival tix … so the math of the situation will have it that the ovewhelming majority of NG tix will fall into hands of people who are already situated. Of the remainder, I just don’t see hoards of people winding up in Telluride without a place to sleep – but with nightgrass stubs in hand – tipping over cars on mainstreet at 4:40am & whatever else rioters do.
It’s hard to fault anyone to want to increase their odds of getting NG tix, but would like to counter the notion of even considering “closing the system”. There are already too many closed systems in Telluride for my liking.
You are correct. :thumbsup A barricade is in place for all four days of Festivaasssal! Only locals with a pass can get by. There are shuttles as well as the Gondola to get into town from the parking areas.
Once the festival starts the only way to get back into Telluride with your car is to have a special barricade pass (a sticker). These stickers are typically given to condo renters, towns folk, etc. Very limited supply of them so the bottom line is you can’t come and go into Telluride proper with your automobile to see Nightgrass shows (or to see the festival).
So if you are staying in Mountain Village, then yeah, the gondola is the way to go and since it closes at 2am, it does mean that people may have to leave some Nightgrass shows early. If you are camping outside of Tride at one of the official sites then you need to make sure you catch that last shuttle home.
10,000 people attend the festival. The Sheridan holds what a couple hundred? Man, 99.9% of people seeing those shows either are attending the festival or live in town.
So if I have a hotel room rented in Telluride for said dates, then I should be good to go as far as getting my car into Telluride?
Also, from what I’m being told, the Official camp sites (I assume are Tower Park, Warner, Lawson, etc) are outside of Telluride, and if some of the Nightgrass shows run well past the last Gondola ride at 2am, how does anyone make it back to their camp site??
Sorry for the annoying Q’s, just trying to make sure I don’t have any surprises when I arrive.
you’d need to check with the hotel where you’re staying to find out the specifics of the parking situation with that particular hotel. but, yeah, you can presume you’d be able to park in town if you have a hotel room reserved in town.
re: campsite locations: warner, town park, and high school are located in town, but illium and lawson are outside of town–but shuttles service lawson and illium pretty close to the end of nightgrass shows.
I don’t mind taking my chances with the masses, I figure keeping the doors as wide open as possible (apart from scalpers) will only underscore the fate of where you wind up later at night … which will be the place you’re supposed to be.
have any idea what time they will be on sale??? im guessing starting monday or beyond?? going to be out of county on vacation, so i dont really want to check every second but if thats what its going to take then ill do it. But i would really love to know am or pm??
