Wow, the daily schedule is interesting. Loving the Dusters and Strings slots. Friday and Thursday are huge! Nice mix everyday, and the addition of Shook Twins is awesome!
Yes, some of the additions to the lineup are tasteful, like the Shook Twins and Rising Appalachia. Good to see more female performers in the lineup. What I really think is cool is that Doyle Lawson will be playing the gospel set Sunday AM. Time for some of that old time religion!
Loving the additions!! I hope Leftover does a similar set to last year in their late afternoon/early evening set on Thursday, and I’m really excited for Tyler Childers! Adding the Shook Twins and Sarah Jarosz is awesome, great to see some more ladies on the bill! I’m also really really happy to see Infamous finally get a late night set!!!
And I really hope the Dierks set is a set of him with Sam, Billy, Jerry, et al rather than a straight up country set.
Dierks set will definitely have everyone sitting in at some point! I love it. Ready for that Childers set. A little steel guitar and two stepping!
It’s an interesting choice. I’ve seen Doyle many times, only once did it not turn into a straight up invitation to be saved, where they preached for a good 10-15 minutes of the show. Hoping he keeps the gospel to the songs and not the preaching. Otherwise Looking forward to seeing him in the canyon.
Rising Appalachia has a sublime and soaring sound. That will be a great set.

We may all need a little salvation on Sunday morning, especially this year.
Seriously, the gospel set over the years has produced some very fine and memorable moments. Everything from the Monks to Bonnie Payne to We The People. Years ago they had the Campbell Brothers, which gave us a great introduction to Sacred Steel. The Campbells were on the bill in 2013 set to play with Michele Shocked, until she went on her anti-gay rant that caused her show to be cancelled. I wish the festival would bring back the Campbells because they are kick-ass, and had nothing to do with Michelle’s rantings. They let their steel guitars do their preaching.
If I remember correctly, and the brain is getting dimmer every year, during the early years of the festival there was no official gospel set. It just sort of evolved in the 90’s I think.
LOVING the Dierks set on Sunday and would love a straight Country set (obvs with sit ins). I’d settle for a slowdown.
The Daily and Vincent gospel set was exceptionally solid a couple years ago, really enjoyed it.
Yola seems to be a complete badass. I suspect her set will be incredible — she’s new to me as of today but her most recent album is a really cool mix of country and soul. Plus, she’s reportedly been cast to play Rosetta Tharpe in the forthcoming Baz Luhrman movie about Elvis :cheers
If you haven’t indulged in her recent Tiny Desk Concert, let me recommend… https://youtu.be/usDb7VDRzeM
