Dierks Bentley put on a hell of a show on the main stage last year with the Traveling McCoury’s. I wasn’t expecting much, so I listened to most of it from camp, but they played a bunch of ripping traditional style bluegrass stuff. I fully expect that night to be super hot up at the Conference Center. It also sounds like YMSB stepped aside to let this party happen, so I don’t think they exactly got “booted.”
Don’t sell it short, it’s likely to be a great night. :cheers
Though I’m going to resist Punch Brothers on closing night, not making that mistake again. Went my first year, pretty sure I did Nightgrass every night. By Sunday I was so utterly spent I literally fell asleep with my head jammed against the pillar upstairs at the Sheridan. Dragged myself down the stairs mid set and crawled into bed.
Yeah, it seemed like a great idea at the time but i know I’m not capable of making it to that finish line in one piece again …
I believe we will join the ranks of the “old timers” and make the wise decision to not do nightgrass this year. Really would love to be seeing Punch Brothers Sunday night. But, I know come Sunday I’m going to be drained. And though its no trouble staying awake for a nightgrass show, it makes for a crappy morning next day, and there’s just too much good stuff happening on the main stage all day. I may reconsider and go see the Lil Smokies if theres some extras come showtime.
First time playing the Nightgrass lotto… really only want I’m With Her, but gonna enter for at least 1 show a night.
What is folks’ general success of scoring tickets to any Palm or SOH shows?
Yes, past market behavior does not predict the future, I know…
Dierks and Del?? Are you kidding this will be epic I am certain! MaddieRose has excellent taste!
Looking forward to it. Luck of the draw, luck of the draw. :medal
So true ! I have gifted so many Nightgrass tickets. I love them though and it does take some stamina. One time a guy fell asleep with his head on my back behind me and when I moved forward he fell like a big tree. Crazy, fun but crazy.
Not sure where to put this questions but first timer here. What did the schedule look like last year in regards to what time the mainstage music ended? Would it be possible to catch all of Sturgill and still make it over to Punch Brothers at Sheridan?
Attached is a link to last year’s festival program. Main Stage ends at 11 on Thursday, Midnight on Friday/Saturday and 1030 on Sunday. One of the dilemmas we all face is whether to catch the end of the Main Stage and miss a little of the first set of Night Grass or vice versa. My experience is, despite all the best laid plans, the Magic of Telluride will often take you in a different direction in the moment. I recommend trying to get the tickets you’re interested in and let things play out. You’ll have little difficulty selling Night Grass tickets for the Palm or Sheridan shows if you decide to bail on one altogether (happens to the best of us!).
So glad to see fresh energy in the opening night Wednesday slot!!! I think that this surprise will be a welcome change, with a lot of energy up on that stage! Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Fest once again this year! (:
Question that I’ve not seen asked. Does KOTO ever broadcast nightgrass shows, or just main stage only? I’d love to be able to sit in camp while enjoying a night cap and listen to some of the nightgrass shows.
I don’t think YMSB got bumped. Keep in mind that Allie is now a new mama, so her needs are with little one more right now. Also, I see Dierks and the Travelin’ McCourys listed, NOT Del, so I am wondering why some folks keep saying Dierks and Del? He might sit it, but it is NOT listed as Del McCoury Band. Dustin or Brian, can you chime in on this and clear this up please? oh and if anyone has an extra for the kick-off, I’m on the lookout.
And the weather can have an influence in that decision if it’s cold or rainy outside! A few years back, maybe 5, I drove down to the SOH from town park for the PB show. Came out and my car was completely covered in snow. I drove back and looked at my tent to make sure it was still standing, then I slept in my car! It had rained all day and my tent was flooded before the afternoon, so there was no way I was leaving my warm (and dry) car to go be miserable. No one was jamming since it was the last night. That was a pretty messy load out the next day, but a lot of folks had never seen snow and were loving it! That part was pretty cool.
