2016 Folks Fest addition: Parker Millsap

The artists for the 26th Annual Rocky Mtn Folks Festival keep rolling in…

Parker Millsap

(performing on Saturday afternoon, August 20)

From the rich tradition of Oklahoma songwriters, Parker’s songs have wit, depth, and soul - heaven and hell, love and mercy. Parker can howl a delta blues or sweetly serenade like a heavenly choir.

I caught Parker a few months ago in a packed church at SxSW and it was simply stunning - from pin drop silence to a very forceful standing ovation. With his trio of fiddle and upright bass, Parker sways like Elvis and swaggers like a legend in the making.

Parker opens his latest album with this bluesy barnburner about hell (and lust and trains): www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ruktixvAUw And what follows is an enthralling album that will have you hooked.

Here’s an interesting NPR interview with Parker, where he talks about growing up in the Pentecostal Church, Howlin’ Wolf, and the allure of the blues…
