Check out Black Prairie, they’re lightly touring this fall in support of their new release “A Tear in the Eye is a Wound in the Heart.” Their first release in 2010 “Feast of the Hunters’ Moon” is very good. I don’t know of they’d even be available for summer- however, they might make an exception for Telluride.
3/5 are Decemberists- Chris Funk, Nate Query and Jenny Conlee (who couldn’t make 2011 while fighting breast cancer,) plus Annalisa Tornfelt (the Woolwines, Bearfoot) and Jon Neufeld (Jackstraw, Dolorean) on violin and guitar. Varied and interesting musically, pop sensibilities with Americana, Bluegrass and Eastern European influences.
While we’re at it, Trampled by Turtles and Greensky Bluegrass just need to be regulars…
After hearing the new Brandi Carlile record, I think I’d like to see her return. Her new music is an even better fit than her 2010 material was.
Milk Carton Kids would be excellent for a nightgrass show. I saw them last night, and not only are they talented, I laughed more than I ever have at a musical performance. Also, they’re touring with Punch Brothers this winter.
David Wax Museum also have a great new record out.
Lost In The Trees would also be really cool to see up in the mountains. Their record is my favorite of the year so far.
For the token loud and rambunctious band that makes the old-timers question the integrity of the festival, I suggest the Old 97’s.
For what it’s worth, Gov’t Mule and Trombone Shorty were awesome at Blues & Brews last month. Not sure either is a good fit for Bluegrass, but I wouldn’t complain about seeing either of them in Telluride again.
Suggestions for 2013:
Rose’s Pawn Shop
Split Lip Rayfield
David Grisman
Blue Ribbon Bluegrass Band
Yes. Someone like PAT FLYNN? Just sayin’ :flower Maybe he could bring Michael Martin Murphy along…and maybe he’d sit in with some other guys…a sort of revival kinda thingy…would be cool! :cheers
Warren’s support players at his “solo” show this Thursday are Tim Carbone, Jon Skehan, Andy Goessling and Andrew Altman (of RRE). I could see that group fitting in nicely at TBF, and I would love to see it happen.
This is a terrific line up!!! I have my eyes and ears on Warren he has infected my brain with his stiff rippin solos and his voice. I think he is just the jolt needed for TBF. :medal
Has PB or anyone on this board become hip to The Black Lillies yet? Another guy on this board got me into them, but they are great. Wonderful mix of country, blues, folk, rock and excellent excellent songwriting. I highly recommend checking them out and lobbying for them to be at any PBG event.
There latest album can be streamed and downloaded for free here:
Shows can also be listened to over at archive.org…they are playing all over CO in November - including a stop in Lyons on November 9th…no excused PB, get over there!
After listening to the Dusters’ set from Targhee yet again, I really want to see these guys close out a night at Telluride. They are sounding great right now!!!
