2011 sneak-peek: Sweet Honey in the Rock

For over 30 years the internationally renowned all-woman, African-American a cappella ensemble has been creating music out of the rich textures of African American legacy and traditions. Through powerful arrangements of blues, spirituals, traditional gospel hymns, rap, reggae, African chants, Hip Hop, ancient lullabies, and jazz improvisation, they share their inspiring musical message of hope, love, justice, peace, and resistance.

Though Ysaye Barnwell has taught at The Song School on several occasions, Sweet Honey in the Rock’s only other performance at the Folks Festival was back in 1998. We are so thrilled and honored to welcome them to Lyons this August.

Watch them performing “We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Rest…”
