Your 2010 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Lineup...

You sound like a grumpy one.

Soulgrass is good and all…but the thought that someone could show the house band “a thing or two” is laughable.

They are the best of the best. Sorry, Bill…

What a random first post that is! The only thing I have to say is: look around you, if you’d spent a little longer on the forum, checked out what’s been going on since last TBF, you’d realize this year’s line up is an answer to many people’s prayers. Bands like leftover salmon, hot rize, cadillac sky… OK TBF has regulars, but come on, what other festival can boast getting the cream of the crop to come back every year?!? Don’t get me wrong, there’s loads of old, new, upcoming bluegrass musicians out there that I know and love, outside of Jerry, Bela, Sam… But those guys have consistently put out great music over the years, and played a big part in setting the trends in the world of bluegrass. I think it’s an honor to have them as the House Band, in fact, it’s what rocks my socks off, and will get me coming back year after year no matter what country I’m living in!
And you can hardly accuse Telluride of sticking to basics and not having variety, I mean, look at all those new and up-coming bands on the lineup! Just because the artist you mention hasn’t come up, no reason to write off the whole thing!
It was my first Telluride last year, and perhaps 50 percent of the lineup I’d never heard before, and I left the festival with an armful of new CDs (from artists I discovered that weekend) and a massive grin imprinted on my face.

I just wanna say: thank you planet bluegrass for a fabulous 2010 lineup! I can’t wait to get back!

If so disappointed in the line up then why have you come back for 10 years?
After only one under my belt, in my humble opinion I must say that TBF is not all about the music. Lighten up Bill, this event is great people, great scenery, and great old and new music. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! :cheers

Hillbenders will be new to the stage. They did win the band compitition last year and if you missed that, you do not want to miss these guys opening the 2010 fest! They can cook! :thumbsup :cheers :thumbsup

‘Hillbenders will be new to the stage’

Good lead in for ‘new things’

Last year, once me and my group got settled into Warner on Wednesday we took a walk thru town park and maybe 10 minutes in, came across a group of guys picking some GREAT tunes, sure enough, the Hillbenders helping ‘Spread their word’. Grabbed a Demo CD for a few bucks, cracked another beer and got settled into the weekend

Moral of the story, there is ALWAYS something new to see in Telluride, just just got to keep your eyes open, and always expect the unexpected

:thumbsup
:cheers

:huh HBF, you aren’t paying attention, or you’re a troll. Either way, I’ll play along…

Let’s see…21 acts announced so far. 12 of them are the “same old” (well, if I lump Bela with Edgar and Zakir in there, which is a stretch). A few of the remainder are returning acts (Cadillac Sky, Drepung Monks), but the rest are mostly acts I’ve never heard.

Already, I’m in love with Mumford & Sons. Someone compared them to Dave Matthews Band when I played them, and I can see the similarity in the vocals. The difference is Mumford & Sons has the soul DMB dreams of. Imelda May? Wow. Oh…you want some “new” grass? How about the Hillbenders?

Spearhead, Cake, the Frames, Slit Lip Rayfield, the Duhks, King Wilkie, Uncle Earl Ryan Shupe, Wayword Sons (Bring 'em back!!!), Xaview Rudd, the Horseflies…c’mon…this is a small sample of the diversity Craig & Co. Have brought you in the last few years.

We, the ordained Festivarians, return to the temple of Town Park to worship and rejoice with our longtime dedicated congregation members, as well as baptising the new arrivals. It hurts when the old friends don’t make it, and no year is complete without making new friends. We feel the same way about the music. We do expect a return of some of the old friends, and when they don’t make it we miss Alison  But the pain is mitigated by the new excitement we get from new music.

For you to come here and moan and groan because your favorite band wasn’t chosen shows you still don’t get it. Keep on coming back my friend, there’s plenty of new musical salve for your wounds.

~Jeff
Yes…I’m packing already.

:clap :clap :clap :clap Well said my friend! :clap :clap :clap :clap

I’m one of those old regulars too, and Sam, John, Tim, Jerry, Bela, et. al. are the ones who keep bringing me back to life every year, and I for one am damn glad to see and hear them year after year. Wouldn’t be the same without them, and when they’re gone, well, I hope that doesn’t happen for a VERY long time. Doc Watson is 86 years old, and I’d love to see and hear him one more time, but I think that probably won’t happen. The others I mentioned, well, they’re not THAT old yet, so I for one am grateful to have them.
I know that they have a special place in their hearts for Telluride, as do I, and when we are here, we are with our family; we are home. And, there’s no place like home.
For John Hartford, Vassar, Steve, Merle, Charles, Roy, Mark V., Johnny Cash, and Mr. Bill Monroe, I’d like to say I’m so glad I got to see them when I did, and thanks to Fred too, because he got this whole thing going. I’ve seen some amazing things happen here, and become fans of folks I never would have seen otherwise. If the younger, newer, or less-known musicians stay with it long enough, the word will get out, and they too will get their time on that stage in that spectacular box canyon that is, in my heart at least - home.

Omg I love you Guys !
we are all on the same page …year after year
keep it coming , maybe this is why most of us have been coming for 10, 15 , 20, 25 years !
We Freaking Rock !
:cheers

One artist is missing from the lineup - Emmylou Harris. :flower

The 2010 festival will be my 30th year in attendance and I know it won’t be my last. :thumbsup

:wave
As for The Hillbenders, that was Flat Ron or SUR that got the two bands from the competition to do a kinda warm up in front of Wander-In last year. Thinking it was after the brew tasting? That was just too cool and hope he can do that again this year!
And as for EmmyLou, TBF would not be the same without her poppin on stage to help out time and again! Voice that melts hearts like hot piss in a snowbank!
Thought that appropriate since I am up to my butt in that white stuff right now!
Come on June!
And speaking of new, how about new food? Tom and I are working on the appetizers for the brew tasting and will have alot this year! Bacon wrapped brauts are a for sure! :cheers :cheers :cheers

Leftover Salmon!

thank you thank you thank you

this summer is my folks 40th wedding anniversary. they took me to my first TBF when i was 10 years old, and every year when im there i call them and my dad acts like ive never called him from there before and they spend about an hour gushing about their great memories from the fest. so, for their anniversary this year, my brother and i are getting them tickets.

that being said, can i get an alison krauss or an emmylou?? (my parents two favorite musicians in the world)

and for me, a steve martin & SCR?

Awesome gift, trot03…hope my kids do the same for me! And I second the Steve Martin and SCR!!

Oh, man!! I can’t wait for Cadillac Sky! They came to Fort Worth last year during Telluride, and although there was no place else I would have rather been, I was a little bummed to have missed them! I CAN"T WAIT!!

hey tride can’t wait for another great summer! this one will be my THIRD!!! (making me quite the vet!! haha.)

yes yes YES!!! LOS is back and Sarah Jarosz’ new cd is absolutely incredible. her small stage set last year with abby washburn was beautiful, and her rockygrass set had the entire crowd silent with awe…

LOVE the carolina chocolate drops.

any thoughts about bringing the Heartless Bastards? LOVE their new cd, just found out abuot them the other day. Could be a REALLY cool mix to the fest.

another couple thoughts: AA Bondy, Hayes Carll, and the Band of Heathens. All would be really cool additions!

TellurideTom - I met you this year at rockygrass, i recognized you from this board. i asked if you were the mayor, and you said that you were a “traveling dignitary” haha.

cant wait til the summer!!!

-Nick

Q: Does Hot Rize always perform as their alter-ego “Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers” or is that a special show? I saw them at TBF and loved it.

Alter Ego? :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol
More like Pure Ego, knucklehead.

Dave Rawlings Machine should definitely be on the 2010 bill. Gillian and Dave with the guys from OCMS is a perfect fit for TBF! Their new album A friend of a friend is getting alot of play around my house.

See you in Town Park!

Béla, Edgar and Zakir… that may be enough motivation for me to pack up the family and truck them down to TBF. Great score, Planet Bluegrass!
