Who are you listening to?

There are great hikes with trailheads right in town… no driving, great views.

Bear Creek Falls Bear Creek Fall Description, hiking trail near Telluride, Colorado.

to all of you kind folks! i really appreciate the intel.

thank you!! :clap :clap

I saw Hot Buttered Rum and Leftover Salmon together last night in Missoula. Leftover killed it, of course. I finally got to see them play “Steam Powered”, a song I’ve never seen them play but have always wanted to! And Hot Buttered Rum was a great way to start out the night! Their cover of The Sex Pistols’ “Anarchy” was inspired! The harmonies they broke out on that tune were insane! Something tells me I’ll be going on a Hot Buttered Rum kick now.

Thanks to whomever posted Sam’s full set from last year on youtube(audio only)
Can I assume Sam is ok with people audience recording his shows?
Wish he played Same Ol River last year…wonder why he didn’t play it. It’s such an amazing song++

Also I was listening to Sam’s Ice Caps cd and got a chuckle of Pastor Mustard’s Heen. Classic!!
He’s a dude! Is he still going to the fest after all these years? Last clip I saw of him was in 2012 introducing Sam’s Band(also on youtube)…Definitely a REAL CHARACTER!!

Pastor Mustard, it seems, had returned for special engagements at TBF, as in introducing Sam, and a surprise visit to the House Band set.

Our own, Joe Craven has taken over as stage host, and we love us some Joe,althoughwe’ve missed the mustard.

Hi FT,

For Bridal Veil- depending on the shape you’re in: Best way IMO is via mountain bike. My wife and I made it to the top of the falls a few years ago- walking the bikes occasionally to catch our breath, it was great. If you make the top, take the dirt hiking trail a little ways up so you can look down on the house at the top of the falls that the creek runs under. Yes, the creek runs under the house right before it falls.

A hike is good too, especially if you can hitch up the road to where the switchbacks begin, but on a bike- once you’ve gone up, gravity is your friend…there’s a lower parking lot at the old mine- slag heaps where you can park and walk from there too.

For a vehicle, 4WD is nice, but you just need a little clearance on the lower part near where the switchbacks meet the parking area. Taking a vehicle up limits you to a degree because there’s a point at which the road becomes one-way the other way because it’s the route down Black Bear Pass.

We need to get good snow this spring in the San Juans so the falls flow well.

thanks auntie hope. i wont get to see the pastor so i won’t miss anything! lol
it still sucks to be a noob! he seems like he’s got at least 10 great stories to tell

anythingatall…love the mountain bike idea to bridal veil. more my style.
gonna look into a place in town that rents and maybe one that offers tours
got a few days in town before the festival to kill and i just can stay idol very long…

Telluride Sports rents bikes.

Henhouse Prowlers are from Chicago and they can tear the roof off the house. I was curious to listen to them at first, I think Bluegrass can and is very regional. Love the way they deliver! :medal

Love those guys! I first saw them when they won the band competition on the first Mountain Song at Sea, and again when they played on the cruise the following year. They’re really fun, and also great guys and jamming buddies. I think several of them have gone to Telluride as spectators and staff, too. Dan the fiddler jammed with us around our “campfire” at Steamboat Too a couple of years ago.

I would love to see them at Telluride, but it looks like they’re playing in Europe that weekend.

Maybe next year. I think they would be an outstanding fit. They all pick really well and the first thing I did notice is how dang good the fiddle player is.

The new Steve Gunn release Seasonal Hire is really interesting. Primal porch music? Not really sure how to describe it, but it’s dark and ethereal and country/bluegrassy. Kind of reminds me of field recordings I’ve heard, maybe on the American Primal sets?

Really cool stuff. Would love to see him and the Black Twig Pickers grace a stage; they’re on a festival circuit this spring/summer it looks like. Check em out!

Loving the new John Butler Trio cd, Flesh & Blood
A friend has been raving about him/them for a few years…I’m behind…
and I still don’t get the latest zombie craze…it’s everywhere…some new tv show or sumthin…go figure.
here’s the zombie video

The Zombie First Aid Kit! Music. Love that and I smiled through the entire video. May I suggest a larger dance floor at this time. I love their tunes and have to dance when I hear them! Excited :cheers

Nothing new here but if you are in the mood for some really awesome rock n’ roll check out this Little Feat recording. Superb!!!

BTW how cool is it that we get to see Bill Payne with Salmon?

https://archive.org/details/lf1974-09-19.shnf

Thanks for the tip! If you’re into Billy Payne, check out The Hooligans from Bozeman, MT. They’ve been around for 20 years or so and when Bill moved to Montana, he sort of joined them. If he’s not on tour and they have a show, he’s always there playing and he’s on their album. It’s a really great listen.

Greensky Bluegrass with Phil Lesh from last night!!! Check it out

What a great show, check it out if you can. We had lots of fun staying up to watch the webcast. “All Four” with Phil was something special and the “Don’t Lie>Eyes>Don’t Lie” wasn’t bad either

So cool to see the GSBG boys up on stage with Phil, big smiles all around, well done boys :thumbsup

Got a chance to see Mary Chapin Carpenter w/ Aoife O’Donovan last night in OKC! Next week Yonder will be in Tulsa at Cain’s. Looking forward to that!

Check out Yonder’s new single!
