I used to blow lunch on the sidelines before every rugby game for 13 years. (mostly bacon cheeseburgers!) Although the butterflies aren’t quite as bad for the tarp run, I still get the same adrenalin rush when I hear those bagpipes and have to turn on the afterburners!
Training! :evil What stinkin’ training! :evil We’re throwing all you virgins to the wolves! :evil After rumballs on Wednesday night, you’re in for a treat!
Oh, and Hope. Now what all is it I have to do to move to the next level? No matter. I’m happy where I am…just happy I have moved up a notch.
More than likely going over to Orvis to catch some rays and a soak, if the weather is nice, before oysters, if you care to join.
Beer tasting on the Tuesday ? Isn’t this a little tricky for those who only arrive at altitude that morning ? Is there an area where you pile us up for resusitation ?
Suits are optional. Don’t go if you are afraid of seeing a “Small Member”.
$10 for a quick soak (1 hr) and $14 for more than an hour.
Remind me the time the tasting starts. 2pm sticks in my head, but I might be wrong. But yes, we want to be back for that and if Jailhouse is helping with food again this year for oysters, Tom and I need to think about that.
It is a great spot and a neat drive. Maybe Monday or Wednesday might be better. Welcome whenever Tom and I decide to venture over.
Fishbone does the Orvis Thang on Wed prior to Rumballs …Pa Biddle loads up the Rv
with the Bloody Mary induced Festivarians and we head down the Mtn to Orvis
around 9 or 10 am …
Deb and I go at least once or twice during the Abgat week …
Warning Hot Springs and then Rumballs = Passed out Festivarain
Food is a must !
:cheers
Knowing that it is the summer solstice, is it possible to visit Orvis at night to take in a bit of stargazing? Not sure of the hours at Orvis or how long it stays light in that part of the world at the particular time of being. :bubbles
Sounds like Wed. is the better day for Orvis, Hope. :thumbsup Tasting starts at noon on Tues. and oysters is 3-4 pm. Justed talked to Ron and we are working on providing a little food for the participants during the home brew, as well. Menu is a suprise, but you know if Ron and the Jailhouse are involved, you’re in for a treat! :thumbsup :thumbsup
So, after brew and a little food, a little nap, it’s up the hill to the Mayor’s house for oysters, et al! What a great day! Can I get a Waaahhhooo! :cheers :cheers :cheers
:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol Seriously Mark you make me piss myself!
I’ve raised the question before and proposed that us UK festivirgins should do some serious Tarp training in high altitude this side of the Atlantic so as not to suffer from Low Tarpestime once we get to TBF, but no one’s got back to me with a decent venue for it yet…
UselessJoe’s idea of hot springs at night for star gazing sounds amazing, I am really looking forward to seeing the sky blazing with stars (in my home in the south of France I didn’t think twice about the luxury of it, but what with London’s light pollution I’ve learnt the hard way…) But I’m not much of a “suits optional” fan, so I might have to give it a miss
As for food & cooking, that’s a part of the experience I’m also really looking forward to as well, cooking out of doors for a start, and getting to learn some new recipes! I’d be more than happy to be a Kitchen Wench!
Lalagay…why do you think I want to go to Orvis at night? Not only to marvel at the blanket of unobstructed stars but, I too, am not really comfortable with the “option”. What I can’t see won’t bother me though. :giggle
Looks like the sun sets around 8pm and Orvis is open till 10 so, if the skies cooperate, there may be some fine viewing. New moon on the 22nd should provide a darkening sky. On the last night of the festival, if we’re really lucky we may be able to view the Occultation of Antares. Late in the evening, the waxing gibbous moon will pass in front of the bright red star Antares, in the constellation Scorpius. Get our your star maps and figure out where Scorpius is now so you’ll know where to look. :8
BTW…the ‘Useless’ portion of the equation is Brian and ‘Jo’ is Kim, the Mrs. We make it totally confusing as you never know who is posting. :evil
And Telluride Tom, Brian is in no way Useless. Truly of man of many talents, the most important is making me laugh. :love Just a tag he got many years ago from an old ‘Tarzan’ character…Useless McGonagle, our mouthful of a last name.
:wave Good to see your back Mark. I thought about you yesterday. There is a radio station here that has a “classics” show every sunday and I heard Montrose and King Crimson back-to-back! Pretty funny to be talking to someone about that considering we are on a Bluegrass forum.
Anyway, keep your chin up, it’s always darkest before the dawn! :thumbsup
