A lot of things come to mind, but first of all happy to be coming back to Telluride after 25 years. Moved from IL to go to school at Western State College in Gunnison. Found out I was a better skibum than a student which in hindsight I knew already. Worked as a lifty in Created Butte, got a job the first off season cleaning cabins and mowing lawns at a little resort in Almont, answered an ad in the paper and the owner of the resort was an older brother of a pair of twins I grew up with in IL. Quit school and went back that winter as foreman of the learning area double chair and why I would come to hate a T-Bar with a retractable rope derailed more than you can imagine. My percieverance paid off and got a year round job lifty in the winter, lift maintenance in the off season. Worked and lived with a guy named Nick Burns from MN we listen to Red Clay Ramblers, Old and in the Way, Doc and Merle, Newgrass Revivail. He’d been to TBF the year before and said we should make the trip, it fell at the end of mud season and was a great time to make the trip before we had to go back to work.went for 6 years in a row from 83-89, can’t belive all the bands we saw Bromberg, Hartford, Little Feat (first show back without Lowell), etc… Topper was The Dead in 87, we were going to the Floradora for beers and almost got run over by moped driven by Bill Graham. Camped in Town Park next to Wavys’ Bus got to meet Phil when he came to see Wavy. Can’t replace the years I’ve missed but going to have a great Fest in place I truley love and feel at home.
'YES! and all those kids behind us laughing at us old farts dancing and singing to all his songs. That was one of the funnest performances I have had the privilege to see and hear.
this is very well put together. incredible. :clap :clap
My first TBF was the 40th 2 years ago, perfect weather, Trampled By Turtles at the Sheridan Opera House was probably my favorite show of all time. They played everything they had.
This time right now with just a few weeks to go and as I dust my chair and hat and squirtgun off, this time now. Anticipation, relaxation. Hard to get excited over and over again about this same adventure but no not. Because it is the sameness of the people the good music, the vibes that makes each trip I take to TBF unique and the same all in one. Extremely comforted in knowing that music lovers of all ages shapes and sizes will be together in nature experiencing this long weekend of fun together again. GOOSEBUMP CITY!!!
FESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! :sunshine :clap :horsey :hug :kiss :vibes :vibes :vibes

whyte byrde: This is the only way I could move this into this topic. Otherwise it would have been it’s own topic and would move down the page in time. :flower
Meeting everyone ( almost) from this forum in real life and discovering how great you really are; walking into the venue for the first time and being struck dumb by the beauty; finding out what a rum ball really is; seeing musicians I have loved but never seen for the first time; sitting in the sunshine feeling so happy; washing the dust off; wearing my wristband and not wanting to take it off, ever.
Thanks for everything, it’s been a beautiful week
There were a lot this year that I may get around to typing up, but one that stands out is watching a great band from my hometown win the Band Competition! Here’s to the Lil Smokies!
They owe it all to you Sugar!
Yeah, without his former professional comedian drumming skills they never stood a chance at winning.
I think they owe it all to Ellen for warning them not to camp in Run a Muck
You got that right Sugar! :thumbsup You called it on Monday though. They smoked it! :medal :medal
Can’t wait to see them on the main stage next year!!
If you know the girl who took my green northface down jacket and a fleece hoodie from the Palm after Greensky Saturday night, please have her call me to return them.
Her friends said she was super trashed. She is from CO (Durango, maybe?) and left Sunday am.
Please pass my info along to her if you know her and see this
Or if one of your friends looked like she left with a different jacket she came in, please pass my number along.

Ok here is another one. In 2006 I was traveling Solo from California to the TBF. I was excited on Sunday Morning as I hit the road, loaded in some traveling Music and got off with the Sunrise. I traveled through Truckee and had the truck headed down hill toward Reno. As I started up a smal. Hill I noticed that the engine reved really fast and I was not speeding up. This caused me some concern, and it got worse. I quickly realized I had a transmission filled with neutrals. I was able to pull to the side of the road and a CHP came by shortly and pushed me to a turn out. I called AAA and the tow truck arrived an hour later. I had him tow me to a (AAA recommended) transmission shop that was closed as it was Sunday. He was then nice enough to take me to the airport so I could rent an SUV. I then went back to my SUV and loaded all of my gear into the rental SUV, found a Hotel and proceeded to get really drunk. Up early on Mondy to go to the tranny shop and have them take a look. They called a few hours later and said the tranny was fried and they needed to replace it. It was going to take the rest of the week to repair and about $2000.00. He said it would be done by Thursday, so I said can I pick it up a week from Tuesday, and took the renta car to Telluride. When I arrived in Town Park, and pulled in to our camp site at Wanderin’. I rolled down the window and my good friend Hippie Jerry handed me a bottle of Goldsclagger and I knew I was at home. :pirate
