What are your best TBF memories?

Besides the whole experience being great, one of my best memories would be hanging out at Warner Field and hearing Emmitt and Nershi play Tangled Up In Blue. I would love to get a copy of that!

Hi Joe Dunlap,
If you are talking about the falls you can see from Town Park, that is Ingram Falls. Bridal Veil is up valley on the right and you can’t see them from town. BUT, I don’t know where Lawson Hill is so maybe you were seeing Bridal Veil.

I can’t say anything specific because everything seems to be magical during the TBF. I’m going onto my 5th TBF experience, which pales in comparison to most of you, but each year my best friends that I grew up with (one lives in NYC and one lives in Boston and I live in Denver) come out for TBF. It’s been a great way to remain great friends despite the distance between us. For 4 great days we get to pretend that we’re kids again and just have a great time and let loose!

Looking forward to TBF 2009!

:thumbsup

Hi everone…first time poster here!! Figured this would be a good place to start. Just spent all morning reading through everyones posts on this thread…and it seems this place is even more magical than I had thought for myself!!! I am so excited to be returning to Telluride for only my second festival, the first being 2003…the 30th Anniversary!! After reading everybodys stories, it got me thinking about my first trip to TBF…So here are some of my best memories.

I had just graduated from Florida State University and my parents had just bought a cabin in Dolores, CO. My buddy told me his uncle worked for the festival and could get us jobs at the festi and we wouldn’t have to pay for anything. I had no idea about bluegrass music or Telluride, but I figured that it would be a pretty sweet trip anyway (and my parents bought my plane tix!!!). So I get there wednesday afternoon and meet up with my buddy and his uncle and as it turns out, our jobs were in ARTIST TRANSPORTATION!!! We got to pick up the artists at their respective hotels and drive them back stage before their show!!! And we had a primo camp spot in town park where we could see the stage from out tents!!! It was awesome…I got to meet so many amazing artists that I had no idea who they were at the time!!! And they were all super nice and down to earth…It was a good 15-20 min drive from Mtn Village into town, so I really got to talk with some of them. Susan Tedeschi asked me to stop by Baked in Telluride so she could run in and grab some food, and I commented on how I really like the name of that place so she came out with a t-shirt for me!!! How cool is that!!! Got to meet a bunch of other artists too like Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, John Cowan, Jeff Coffin, Futureman, Ben Kaufmann…all such nice people.

As far as the music…WOW!!! I had never heard of Yonder Mountain String Band before I got to Telluride, but after seeing them at the Conference Center on Wednesday, The Sheridan on Friday and on the main stage Saturday I was hooked for LIFE!!! That opera house show was AMAZING…life changing. Although Yonder made the festival for me I will never forget The String Cheese Incident set (the encore was really a treat!!), hearing Béla Fleck & the Flecktones for the first time, having everything around me just seem to stop while Martin Sexton was on stage, or my first taste of New Belgium Brews!!! (I can’t wait for my first Fat tire in June!!!) Being from Florida it was really neat to see the snow on the peaks surrounding the town after a good rain storm, and being able take mountain bikes on the gondola and ride down some of ski trails on the mountain…the whole weekend was incredible.

Now, here we are in 2009 and I’m going back with that same buddy, my wife and his girlfriend!!! I cannot wait to get back there!!! I think we are gong to be on the backstage recycling team this year!!! Just thinking about it is getting me way too excited…still two months of work to get through first!!! Hope to see ya’ll real soon…

I can’t wait to be able to post about my first and favorite memories after June 21st!

You just wait…
Pretty soon you will have many summers full of favorite memories and than after that, they get all smmoched together like one huge long lasting surreal summer dream… :flower

Cool, I didn’t really hear much from them until just a few months ago, they are a great band

Winning the lottery for YMSB at Sheridan… :thumbsup

In no particular order

  1. chatting with Del McCory, his laugh and charm
  2. hailstorm in '08 during the Duhks set–pure magic!
  3. getting “lei-d” in camp flamingo and tenderly kissed by Jerry in '07
  4. anything with Sam Bush playing but especially “Same Ol’ River” in closing set of the house band
  5. hearing Sarah Jaroz, especially the version of “Grandma’s Hands” in '07
  6. discovering Greensky Bluegrass

We have a new pavlovian response to the William Tell Overture!

The hail/snowball storm last year was GREAT!!! That was quite a refreshing mid-day treat. Oh yeah, that miniature tornado that whipped through the festival grounds…CRAZY!!!

Oh yeah, being introduced to Split Lip my first time in Telluride. That band will never be the same :frowning:

Last year, playing kickball with the locals and looking out at the falls from the outfield while drinking a beer…
