TP First Timer - I Reluctantly Admit

Hello there!

We are coming in for our third TBF and so excited to have Town Park camping for the very first time. (Previously Mary E) I have reviewed the info online and in emails, so good on all of that.

We can’t get in until Tuesday afternoon, so I’m curious about what we can expect when we show up - as far as available camping spots and space. We are a party of three, with 3 tents. I would take any advice/tips that you all have

Really looking forward to another fun filled week!

Jayna

Should be plenty of spots. Best bet is to do a full walk through and ask folks already set up about open spaces or suggestions. Definitely won’t be large areas available but should have plenty of options for 3 normal sized tents.

Hi Jayna. Thought I sent something last night but I must have done something wrong. We are camping in Mary E and are first timers. Since you have some experience at Mary E, are there any tips you can share? Thanks!

Get there as early as possible. Camping by the river is nice but colder.

Hey @MerryPrankster69 - check out this thread for potentially helpful advice on Mary E! What to expect at TBF as first timers? Mary E Ilium Campground

Hi thewiz! I have been perusing the first timer thread pretty frequently and I looked through the MEI thread as well that but there are no posts from this year. I have two related questions which I have not seen addressed anywhere. If I should post these elsewhere, please let me know. 1) Does TBGF create more camping sites than the existing 20 listed on the NFS website, i. e. are the campsites wall to wall like they appear to be at the other camping locations (seems with natural obstructions like trees, boulders, etc. that would be hard to do?) 2) as a corollary to that, how are the sites assigned once we do arrive? Is there someone there 24/7 from the 13th onward assigning sites? There’s a possibility we could be arriving late (>10 pm). Thanks for any help you can provide😁!

Thanks Todd! Will keep that in mind for sure!

There are no assigned sites, and no real space restrictions, other than don’t take more than you need. You are free to go about the campground and pick the site you like. There are volunteers in camp all the time, however in the first few days they may not be at the gate past a certain time guessing 11-12 at night. But maybe earlier. During fest there will be vols at the gate until pretty late.

@MerryPrankster69 —I think I sent my reply as a private message, oops! Glad you got it:) My phone doesn’t like this forum as much as my desktop!
