i just really like those dumplings
Doc, I hear ya. I just wish they played more of their own music. Love the energy!
I truly believe that none of this forum banter comes from anywhere near a “hateful” place, :flower but I agree with the rest of Doc Mike’s perceptions that both bands are great, and I will see them whenever I am able. :cheers
Festivaaaaal! :thumbsup
p.s. Just when will we get another Dusting here in 'Sota?
It’s YONDER.
Learn it, know it, live it.
Sorry, hate was too strong of a word. Negative energy would have been better.
Peace, love, and Bobby Sherman!
Holy crap, Jeff Austin quit the band today:
Yonder Mountain String Band is all about family, and through the support of our family of fans, we have been able to play music for you for the past 15 years. We couldn’t be more proud about our successes and experiences performing at the best venues and festivals in the country, and for the most dedicated fans any band could ever wish to have. With this said, YMSB would like to share some news about the future of the band. Collectively, after long, heartfelt discussions, we’ve all decided to move forth with a newly formed line-up due to varying career goals and creative pursuits. As of today, all future YMSB shows will be performed with Adam Aijala (guitar, vocals), Ben Kaufmann (bass, vocals), and David Johnston (banjo, vocals). We will welcome exciting special guests throughout the rest of the year and we look forward to a new permanent line-up in 2015. YMSB fully supports Jeff Austin and his emerging solo career.
Yonder Mountain String Band will perform all scheduled dates throughout 2014 with the new line up and special guests. Jeff Austin will be announcing more dates for his solo endeavors in the coming months. The band wants the fans to know that this decision did not come easily, and we’ll certainly keep all of our fans up to date with the new Yonder band-member line-up information.
We greatly look forward to seeing everyone out on the road this Summer and Fall!
With Gratitude & Respect,
Ben, Jeff, Dave & Adam
there was no quitting
Can you add more detail? Your response intimates Jeff was kicked out of the band or a mutual decision agreed upon for him to leave.
Jeff has been reading this thread… :eek
I had been hearing rumors for a while that their most recent tour would be their last. Honestly, I’m shocked the band is planning on continuing on without him. He’s been working on a bunch of solo projects recently, so I’m surprised he’s decided to move in that direction. I am surprised that Adam and Ben have decided to keep Yonder going. I always figured the two of them would go off and do some type of collaborative thing while Jeff formed his own band and Dave waited by his phone for the call to reform Yonder (sorry, Dave). I’m absolutely shocked.
I give it a year before Yonder disbands and goes the route of Salmon. They’ll do their own thing for a few years, then they’ll start doing 2-4 reunion shows a year at big festivals, then they’ll come back full force and show a whole new generation what they were about.
I was at the last show of their tour, which now is the second to last show with the original lineup. Weird to think about.
Thats interesting Hot Sugar . I forgot Salmon went through the whole breakup and then reunion and then back together . 25 YEARS FOR YONDER !! Thats a long time together . I think it sounds like they all need a break . A lot of bands break up and then get back together . I think if Yonder splits for awhile and then reforms I think the band will be much stronger and refreshed . Its all good .
Just checking out some of the shows sans Jeff from winter tour where they had Ronnie McCoury and Jason Carter sit in. I’m really impressed! Figure we will get treated to a McCoury Mountain String Band show at the CC this year? I sure hope so!!
I’ve done the same and I completely agree with you. I love what McCoury and Carter did during their shows with YMSB. The addition of the fiddle is a great dimension. And of course, how can you not like the Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas shows, as well as many others.
While I will miss Jeff’s energy and certain of his songs, I look forward to all of the collaborations that we will undoubtedly get to see in Telluride (and elsewhere). I know others have been concerned that there is little future without Jeff. I completely disagree. Its not as if Jeff wrote 80 or 90% of the music. Ben, Adam and Dave all write and sing! Long live Yonder!

I felt that way at first and when I started thinking about it more it’s purely that when the lead singer leaves it very notably changes the sound, especially since Jeff has a unique voice, but I think the biggest thing I worried about was that they wouldn’t have the same stage presence without him. For me, I know they have the talent musically to go on without Jeff but I hope that they find a way to keep the energy because that is one of things that really draws me in to Yonder.
I agree, LONG LIVE YONDER!
I wouldn’t consider Jeff to have been the lead singer. I would call him the front man, but I don’t think he sings more than Ben does. And Adam and Dave both sing plenty of songs, too.
Well yes tomato, tomAHto… Lead singer is the same thing as front man in my brain.
Excited for both what Jeff and Yonder might do. Could be good for everyone.
Yeah, from what I understand Paul McCartney used to be in a band, too.
:lol :lol :lol Always a smart guy :lol :lol
Lets start some wild speculation on who Jeff’s replacement will be. I’ll say Jake Jolliff of the recently disbanded Joy Kills Sorrow will get the spot.
