I guess everyone has a different answer as to what the festival is “about”; however, PB is a business - believe it or not - and the presence of Phish on a 40th anniversary DVD would generate lots of additional revenue.
If that’s how you like to think of it then sure I guess. I love this festival because I feel like it isn’t about the bottom line and they love the idea of tradition.
Just excited I get to go year after year and that they have tried to keep it the intimate festival it is and has been while still growing.
i don’t believe the phish rumor but lets not forget phish has a history with tride and gordo played the festy with leo kottke back in 2005 so its definitely on their radar. what if gordo called craig and was like, hey we want to do a acoustic set at the festy this year. do you really think he would turn them down?
It’s not that I like to think about it this way, nor do I view it as a “be all end all” explanation, it’s just a card in the deck as to why it could be Phish (among other reasons). Personally, I’d prefer Futhur & would also love it if it were the Doobie Brothers!! :cheers
… saw the DB for the first time at a casino in Reno on the way to SF for NYE a few years ago and thought it was an excellent show … never realized Tommy Johnston was a “type A” personality.
What two states legalized marijuana?
Check Pollstar and see where they’re playing June 23rd.
They could play either Thursday or Friday before flying out.
You never know.
And no, there is no birdie in my ear. :lol
this is really funny. phish telluride in 2010 (which was the year, btw) telluride was a ghost town compared to bluegrass. way more mellow, and the “touring hordes” never showed up. either way though, it aint phish.
though mike g played a great set with leo kotke in 2005 bluegrass.
Tom- Ya know , I was just thinking about that… Johnny C needs to be back and I thought I had hears that is why he missed the last few years. I don’t keep up as closely with the bands like most of you do so I was afraid to state it out loud.
Oh my God, Doobie Brothers would be amazing. Yet another band that I’ve listened to since birth but never got to see. Fingers and toes crossed that you’re right, Tom!
I wouldn’t mind the Doobie Brothers showing up. I saw them in 2009 at the Gorge when the split the bill with the Alman Brothers and The Dead and they were fantastic. They put on a good show and would be a fun addition, but mostly I just want to make sure John Cowan is at the 40th.
I wouldn’t mind seeing phish. I missed the show in Cleveland last year because I was at TBF. That said, and in spite of my previous comment about SCI, I guarantee heavy wook presence if phish is on the bill. HuckinFappy is right about that. I would use the term “inundated” to describe the effect of a phish presence on the town. No thanks for that… though I would love the music.
you guys are silly. phish shows these days consist more of mid 30’s guys and people with families. they grew up listening to phish in the 90’s and early 2000’s. though not a huge fan myself most of my close friends are. they are all professionals with careers and families. not a wook among them. and they still do a lot of phish shows, just not the way they used to do them. :lol
oh and as for phish actually playing the tbf. not gonna happen. they command way to much money per show. if one would actually think about it, they can do their own festival and make 5 times the money. which they have done over the years, and will do this year. think hawaii. it’s their 30th anniversary this year and they are going to do something really special festival wise, just not at telluride. oh and i know this because my uncle’s best friends sister’s cat told him so. the cat has a direct line to mike gordons cat, which also shares esp capabilities with trey and pages cat, who heard this through a stray cat that lives in the alley behind planet bluegrass. billy from sci does not have a cat or i would know what their plans are also.
thing is, phish has played other people’s festivals in 3.0, breaking their norm a little bit. outside lands, bonaroo, etc. that said, i dont think it will be phish. if it is i would be very stoked, though their festival sets leave something to be desired, i for one, would LOVE if they did an acoustic set. their acoustic set at festival 8 was a highlight for me.
also, in case you were wondering what phish has to do with bluegrass, and how they “could” fit in with many of the tbf vet performers. take a look at this compilation:
