It’s possible too that many of the “veterans” can help you with gear- we can just bring extras for you all… Also, I don’t know how it would work from Australia but some people have shipped items to themselves to be delivered in Telluride…or you could get things bought from something like REI or another clothing catalog and there may be some festivarians that may be able to have it shipped to them and brought to you… Prices in the Telluride boutiques for winter clothing and gear are going to be about as expensive as you can find… It would be much better to purchase elsewhere ( Denver when you arrive or online somewhere)
Ok - where do you fly in? Los Angeles? New York? Summer tour, or just for this fest?
Remember - a banjo players best friend…Opt Shop/Thrift Store.
Bring the banjo and forget the clothing until arrival. OK, not all the clothing, but most of it anyhow.
Before you go any further, let me invite you and the new Aussie crew to read this forum at length ( you have plenty of time). Take Jason up on his invitation for information. The man knows what he’s doing. Trust us on that point! :thumbsup
Camping: you really have two options for “close by”. One has been mentioned but the other would be Warner Field. It is actually closer to the festi-field. Nothing like waking up to the sound of bagpipes signaling the start of the Tarp Run! Lots of cool folks camp in Warner and you’d still have full access to the other campground, which is less than a football kick away.
By the way, the entire town is about 1500 meters long. It’s slow walking at first because of the altitude, but very do-able.
The Festivarian Family truly understand your excitement. It happens to us every year!!!
Cheers :cheers

If you rent gear from REI, try to reserve it before you get out here. I’m not sure how much demand there is in Denver around TBF, but when I was looking into renting equipment at the Nashville store for Bonnaroo, I was told to reserve my stuff months in advance. Of course, there aren’t that many REIs close to there, and Bonnaroo is 100,000 people as opposed to something like 10,000 at Telly, but a reservation can’t hurt!
Hell… that is just fantastic! Thank you so much Debbie for such a kind thought… I am already blown away by TBF and its community I haven’t even been there! As the time approaches and we KNOW we have tickets, I will definitely follow up re the extras from some veterans. That would be an enormous help. Of course, if the “vets” don’t have the extras we need then maybe we could buy some gear and leave it with you fantastic people for future TB Festivals… I have a very sneaky suspicion our first in 2013 will NOT be our last!
I have to say I am not familiar with REI… It sounds like they sell everything to do with the outdoors and camping… does that include winter clothing?
Thanks again
:cheers

I spent 3 wonderful years in OZ and would be very happy to help a fair dinkum Aussie with camp gear. It’s hard to know what will be available by next summer but keep my email, I would be glad to help any way I can, no worries mate. nicolktn@gmail.com
Truly can’t believe how helpful this TBF community is! Thank you so much for the offer… I will certainly be in touch as the time draws near and we have our tickets confirmed
Tell me… where did you spend your three years in OZ?
Can’t wait to catch up in 2013
:cheers
Rob
Hey Jason-Perhaps you should tell him about your ticket hunt last year…
Not TBF related… but just wanted to chime in mate, when I was 22 (along with my 18 y/o brother) I toured the east coast from the Daintree down to Sydney catching all the sites along the way… it was AWESOME. Such a wonderful country, and I only saw a part of it. Daintree Rainforest (where the rainforest meets the reef) The Great Barrier Reef, Frasier Island, Whitsunday Islands, Mt Warning, Byron Bay, the BLUE MOUNTAINS, holy cow is that a beautiful place or what. Easy to recognize beauty such as Telluride when you’re coming from somewhere as awesome as Oz

I took this at McKenzie Lake on Frasier Island… yes this is LAKE. You can imagine what their beaches look like!
OK well here’s what one beach looked like (Whitehaven Beach in the Whitesunday Islands)

Hey Jackalope… Beautiful pictures :thumbsup
Personally I think you have been to the best part of the world if you have traveled he East Coast of Australia! I live in the hills behind Byron Bay and it really is paradise…
Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island is a very special place… I have been there many times and every time I go there it just blows me away.
Whitehaven Beach is again an absolute jewel…
BUT, having seen an awful lot of pictures of Telluride, I have to say it seems to have a bit going for it in the beauty stakes.Cannot wait…
Maybe we can catch up for a coldie next year and reminisce?
Cheers
Rob
Many years ago, I lived in Sydney (downtown and Double Bay) for about 18 months and I spent about a year in Cairns. Tended bar at the Sydney Hilton ( including the Marble Bar) and The Great Northern in Cairns. Best part… 6 months sailing the Barrier Reef. Worst??? 6 weeks on a Prawn trawler out of Darwin. In all a great expreience!
:wave HI RKG, No one has mentioned the FREE BOX in Telluride. That would be the first place I’d look for warm clothes. It is in downtown Tride, and everything in it is FREE. Clothes mostly, but sometimes there are interesting items that make it into Town Park for the festival, and then end up back in the Free Box afterwards. It’s about the only place I can afford to shop in Telluride.
As others have said on here, do take the time to read through the forums, and 99% of your questions will have already been asked by others and answered by many. (sometimes they stray off topic, but stick with it, you’ll get there)! And you are smart to even start thinking about 2013; it will be the 40th Telluride Bluegrass Festival, so LOOK OUT! Try to plan some extra time before and after the festival so you can acclimate to our beautiful state, and take in so much of what Colorado has to offer: Hiking, biking, rafting, climbing, jeeping, parasailing, paddleboarding, skiing (snow and water), rockhounding, gold panning, ancient cliff dwellings and Indian ruins, and the ever-popular DRINKING! Lots of breweries beckon, and some wineries too.
Bet you wish you were coming this year, huh? :cheers
Hey Cindy Lou…
Sure do wish I was going this year, but I guess all good things come to those who wait!
Thanks for the tip on the Free Box… sounds interesting. Would love to spend a few weeks in Colorado, but it’s not going to be possible the way things are looking. My wife wants to get over to New York and spend some time on the East Coast exploring… That’s fine with me… at least I get to go to Telluride!
Cheers
