My wife and I drive out from southern Indiana for the TBF. This will be our seventh consecutive festival. Our two daughters join us out there as their jobs permit. As the good Dad, I get up each morning at 4:00 and I am in line shortly after that. The ladies join me on the tarp at their leisure. I have a large rolling duffel bag from Cabela’s which I take all of our families needs for the day on the Tarp.
I feel the number system works great. I only wish the numbers would come out a little earlier or a little more frequently. I get a little paranoid when I want to leave for a few minutes to go the the restroom or to get some coffee. Our first year I was up by where the buses drop off the campers. The numbers had not come out yet and some of the campers off the bus tried to mingle and blend in with the existing line. That was irritating. Since then the number delivering volunteers have either come a little earlier and we have had our numbers before the buses start arriving or perhaps the busses are coming later. I am awfully chilled and sleepy that early in Telluride to really notice what is going on around me.
I think the current system works well. I agree about lifting the rule that says no sleeping in line as everyone sleeps in the line. I would not be opposed to using the Rocky Grass (shuffled numbers at an earlier time) system on the Town Park side, as I could get a little better rest that way. However, I don’t see how that would work on the Town side with so many more folks, and folks at the remote campgrounds who may not stay for the late sets.
If people are scalping line numbers, or anything else, cut their wristbands off and send em packing. We don’t need scalpers in our community.
So can we use those Cobella chair tents (rain) if the weather is bad. Have you seen those cot/tents, very cool…
I remember standing and sitting in the rain all night in tarp line and fainting the next day :flower I think Sleep should be allowed. Lets have fun and not be all zoned out BEFORE the party begins… :cheers
But hey, what do I know.
I cook a fab breakfast and my brother in law and hubby get the tarp location all square. We all fall into place when we hit Tride, we know our jobs :lol
I think it would be cool to have a small section (say 100x50’) near the front (stage) that is only for smaller (8x10) tarps. Too many people have huge tarps that are empty half the time, and those of us who are a smaller group of 2,3 or 4 people can’t get very close…
Thanks!

Id go one further, is there not a non-tarp area for those of us that are travelling either solo or in pairs who dont wanna spend all of their lives on tarps or in tarp queues.
Call me a trouble maker or johnnycumlately if you like…
OK folks get with the program… An empty tarp is an invitation to park yer butt… Stay and have fun till the owners get back, then introduce yourself, make a new friend and be on yer way or stay if invited. That’s the way PBG intends it to be,not in bad taste, everyone is aware of this tarp tradition.
When I go to fest solo I free tarp and have up close and center stage seats for the entire fest… just do it…
