We will also have a new potty trained 2 year old. If we bring our portable potty (which can either be put on a toilet seat or be used alone with a bag and an absorbent liner) where would we use it?
We are new to the festival this year, and have been trying to search around on these boards about what type of sun shade to bring and set up in the family area. Is a 10’x10’ canopy-type tent acceptable to bring in? Something similar to this: http://www.coleman.com/instant-canopy-10-ft-x-10-ft/2000023970.html#start=8
Or are there height/size restrictions on sun shades/tents inside the festival?
Also, is it advisable to participate in the tarp run early in the AM if we are seeking a spot in the back family area? And if so, I’ve just read that you need to get there very early for this. What time exactly?
Thanks!
Tarp run for the next day lines up as soon as the present day run is completed. It’s crazy, and we now avoid it. I’m not sure how quickly the family area fills up but it seems pretty mellow. If you wanted a specific sight-line, you might want to walk into the festival just after the tarp run is finished, each day. I’ve seen some pretty big sunshades. Enjoy!
Do you know if you can bring collapsible wagons into the festival? We have 2 kiddos and a few items to bring
sure thing - no problem
NO GLASS
:wave We will be right with you. First time with kids in a pop-up. Looks like the kids will have no trouble having fun. We will have two.
Question about setup at the event. It is allowed to bring the “umbrella” type shades to set-up? Not as big as a EZup. Just trying to plan the best way to keep the kids cool as we are listening to music. Thanks for your help.
There is a large designated area that is behind and down the east side of the Park for pop ups and sunscreens. You will have no problem! We would set ours up and also have a tarp closer to the stage!
We have always had a great time! Good Luck!
Anyone have a good general packing list for a Town Park Virgin (3rd time to TBF however) travelling with hubby and 4yr old son :cheers…
Family planning for Telluride BG virgin…
So am I correct that folks bring all their necessary clothing, food, kid gear, packs, sunshades, tarp, etc and frequently load them all into a wagon of sorts to wheel in/around the venue/town for the day?
Where are you camped? If you are staying away from the campgrounds next to the festy grounds, you’ll need to be hauling everything you require, or making multiple trips. You may find becoming a minimalist is worth it, or purchasing light weight gear, that packs small.
If we do this we are either camped at Mary Illium or lodging in Mountain Village.
As a newbie, all this a bit new and overwhelming. I am confused by this whole Tarp run and if i need to play or just show up at a more reasonable hour and find a spot on the ground?
Gear, yea saw the ultimate gear list, but not sure what ultimate, really need aside from clothing layers, water bottle, sun protection, blanket/tarp, hats, possibly small chairs, and possibly lightweight pop up tent for sunshade in back of the fairgrounds.
Do I need to play the Tarp Run to set up the pop up? Can I just show up closer to mid-morning?
I do like idea of a wagon, from what I read, to use for gear haul and transport kiddos when they get beat. But giving camping locations, etc, lightweight and dual backpacks for mom/dad seem the way to go.
Camping obviously is cheaper than staying in MTN Village, and Mary E is a nice spot. Also staying at Mary E you’ll have a shuttle bus that takes you from camp right up to the entry of the festival grounds, so a lot less walking hauling gear. I can’t answer for how soon the shade area fills up, certainly it be tough to get area with a nice stage view without doing tarp run. As for getting a decent spot for laying a tarp out away from shade area you should be fine not doing tarp run. I you use a modest sized tarp you’ll have no problem even finding a space pretty close. We stayed in Mary E last year, and only used to daypacks for my wife and I. That covered our needs for the entire day. You don’t want to have to go back and forth from camp as round trip its a good hour not counting camp time. You’ll have a blast no matter what you do. Don’t let it get overwhelming its all about fun.
Very helpful; thanks. We’ll just play it all by ear then and seek decent spot and shade area too w a modest shade shelter.
We just need a vehicle pass for Mary Illium CG. The park and deposit car elsewhere seems less than ideal, which is current plan if we decide to save $$$ and not go Mountain village route.
Unless you are sleeping in your vehicle having a vehicle pass doesn’t do you much good, as you won’t be allowed to drive in and out of the campground after wednesday. But if your parked on the road you can drive out, just not into the town of telluride.
We had a vehicle pass last year, I wish we’d just saved the 60 bucks as it was completely useless to have our vehicle in camp.
Good to know. Super helpful.
I tend to like my car nearby for storing gear, charging the old iphone, etc. But if its not feasible, well, its not feasible.
See you there!! :cheers We are also heading down with our 4 year old son! So excited! Cannot wait for June!
Did I read correctly that Town Park can be a bit much for families w little ones? Is Warner better for families ? Does TP have good family spots? We’d arrive Tuesday.
Moment still planning condo, but may try TP or Warner during resale. Want walkable, which is why refunded Mary Illium - no desire for car shuttle.
You can’t shuttle by car from Illium, as all traffic into town is blocked except for residents and deliveries etc… The ride from Illium is on a school bus every 20 minutes or so. All the campgrounds are going to expose a child to adult behaviors, nothing extremely shocking depending on what your child is normally exposed to. I’d be willing to guess there won’t be any or many TP or Warner tickets on the re-sale, especially since even at this point all the 4 day passes are sold out. Illium is probably one of the quieter camps and has lots of room, so your not right up next to your neighbors. I’ve only ridden by Lawson, but its in an open soccer field with 0 shade Its closer to town, but still a shuttle or 2+mile jaunt to the festy grounds. Good luck on re-sale hope you get what you want. If not Illium ain’t all that bad!
