It would be great to have a “story hour” on Sunday morning with Todd Snider. Saw him in Minneapolis last night - - what a gifted and funny singer/songwriter/storyteller.
Larkin Poe - These girls can rock. Even without the oldest Lovell sister, the other two are still pretty amazing.
Tony Furtado - Needs no explanation
Leftover Salmon - The show they did in Missoula this past August was fantastic.
Darrell Scott - I don’t care if he was just here last summer, one can never have too much Darrell
David Mayfield Parade - The former Cadillac Sky guitarist’s new project is pretty great.
New Grass Revival - I’m always hopeful for a NGR revival.
Pat Flynn - Whether he’s playing with NGR or a solo set.
John Cowan - If he’s still touring with The Doobie Brothers, I’d say it’s worth booking the Doobies just to make sure we can John back.
Great American Taxi - We’ve had Emmitt-Nershi, maybe it’s time for Vince’s other band to play for us.
(speaking of Nershi)
String Cheese Incident - They’ve been back together for too long to have not played TBF again.
The Acoustic Syndicate - They tore up the stage at River City Roots
White Water Ramble - I adore these guys. They’re energy reminds me of Leftover Salmon.
Toubabe Krewe - These guys could be a fun act to throw in. Great music.
Matisyahu - I still think he’d be a fun Saturday night closer.
Darrell Scott - As I said before, you ca never have too much Darrell Scott
Spencer Boehren - He’s a pretty awesome blues/roots musician and a buddy of Tim. Might make a fun duo.
Bepp Gembetta - Dude’s a pretty awesome Italian flatpicker. Good voice, too.
Del - He was missed this year. Who better to represent traditional Bluegrass at TBF then Del?
New Grange - I just found out this project existed when I found the album at a Borders going out of bussiness sale. It’s AWESOME!!! (Tim O’Brien, Todd Phillips, Mike Marshall, Darol Anger, Allison Brown, and Phillip Aberg).
Hot Rize - Needs no explanation.
Further - Please!
And now for the three artists I already asked for (just so i’s all together)
Willie Nelson - He was beyond amazing in Missoula this August.
He did play at TBF, lets see what year was that. Tom? Anybody? Let me check the archives…he was great!
That was many years ago, I have not heard him recently however, have you?
I’m listening to Keller this morning and it made me think that he should definitely be invited back next year. The NightGrass show at the Sheridan two years ago was friggin amazing!
I got to see Michael Franti recently (warmed up Santana). What a showman! He’d be great in T-ride. And he’d be in the audience ala Bobby McFerrin and Stephen Kellogg’s bass player (although Franti would probably keep his pants on).
We saw Rose’s Pawn Shop open for RRE last night. First time seeing Rose’s Pawn Shop and they were quite impressive. I hear there’s a good chance that they’ll be at TBF in 2012 and I hope that’s true.
I’d never seen them before last year’s fest, and was really looking forward to it, having heard so much about them. It really ended up being a snooze for me though…sounded like they just played one song for a couple of hours.
So i’m torn between hoping I get the chance to give them another chance someday, and just being done with them.
They’re worth another shot. If you can, try to catch them in a concert setting. I’m not sure that an hour and a half is enough for them to really strut their stuff. Tim Carbone is an outstanding fiddler and Andy Gossling plays everything on that stage better than many who devote all their time to one instrument. Plus, they’re really nice guys. I love chatting with them after shows and at set breaks.
I agree; I was actually looking forward to them, but I thought their show was really quite boring. I’ll have to give the show another listen eventually, but the whole thing just seemed to lack energy.
